A Texas teenager bullied over her weight committed suicide Tuesday at her home in front of her horrified family, who tried to talk the distraught girl out of pulling the trigger, Click2Houston.com reported.
Brandy Vela, 18, was reportedly in a bedroom of her Texas City house with her parents and grandparents. Her sister said she heard commotion at around 1:30 p.m. and saw Vela pointing a gun at her chest.

“I heard someone crying so I ran upstairs and I looked in her room and she’s against the wall and she has a gun pointed at her chest and she’s just crying and crying and I’m like, ‘Brandy, please don’t. Brandy no,” Jacqueline, the 22-year-old sister, said.
Vela died after being rushed to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center.
Her family said bullying was constant reality for Vela. Most occurred online, where harassers would set up fake dating accounts.
Vela recently told her school that she was the recipient of “harassing messages.” The school reportedly investigated, but the app used was “untraceable.”
“We encouraged her to change her number,” a spokeswoman from the Texas City Independent School District, said in a statement obtained by Click2Houston.com. The spokeswoman said “we are devastated at the news.”
