With the countdown to Christmas well underway, thousands of children have been paying a visit to Father Christmas over the weekend.
But parents in Pill were in for a rude surprise on Saturday when they discovered that some of the goodies given to their children by the Salvation Army Santa were distinctly adult-themed.
Emma Powell, posting in the Facebook Daily Pill Group, said: "Parents of Pill if your child got elastic band shapes from Salvation Army Santa tonight be careful my daughter just found these lmao."
Another parent then commented that her child's pack also contained the phallic shaped bands.
Opening the flood gates for penis-related puns, James Keenan commented: "What a balls up!"
David Grace added: "Must be a cock-up."
"From the Sally Army that makes it even funnier," said Nicola Yates.
Salvation Army Officer Nicholas Ward later posted an apology for the error, stating: "It has come to our attention that some children received inappropriate toys from Father Christmas at tonight's 'Santa's Grotto'.
"We are very sorry for this and will take this issue up with the Christmas Lights committee, who provide the toys for Father Christmas to distribute.
"That said, we would like to thank Santa for his time and for all the families who shared in our Winter Wonderland.
"We hope you had a good night and please accept our apologies for any offence these toys might have caused you and your children."
Most parents appeared to take the gaff in good humour, however.
"Don't worry," said Becky Powell, "If the kids are old enough to recognise what they are, they are too old to be visiting Santa anyway. No harm done :-)."
