A teacher at a San Jose high school had a months-long relationship with her 17-year-old male student, coercing a minor 15 years her junior with her status as an authority figure, police said Thursday.
The teacher, Trudy Hill, who taught at Santa Teresa High School, a public school in south San Jose, was arrested Thursday after surrendering to detectives, according to the San Jose Police Department.
A 32-year-old San Jose resident, Hill, who posted bail and was released, was arrested on suspicion of sending harmful matter to a minor — which could include obscene images — and oral copulation, police said. The allegations are considered sexual assault under California law.
An investigation undertaken by the police department’s unit that investigates internet crimes against children and child exploitation uncovered a sexual relationship between Hill and her 17-year-old male student that stretched from August to November.
She used her position as a teacher to pressure the victim into acquiescing, police said.
