The Canadian city of Sault Ste. Marie is giving everyone the opportunity to register themselves as “certified non-racists” as part of a program to end racial discrimination.
Interested participants can head on over to the city’s official website to sign up for the program and print out a certificate declaring themselves opponents of racism, reported SooToday.
Here’s what it looks like:

The program, which asks supporters to make a personal commitment to “understand, stand against, and act to eliminate racism and discrimination,” was created by the city’s Local Immigration Partnership organization.
“It only takes a few seconds to go online and fill out the form,” says the program’s coordinator, Danny Krmpotich. “When you click submit, your pledge is added to a running count of those who’ve also taken the pledge. There are so many different cultures in Canada; we face the challenges of acceptance and inclusion every day.”
“We hope this campaign will draw attention to what we as a society can accomplish when we stand together,” he says, according to SooToday. “Through the ‘Take the Pledge’ campaign we are working to make the world a more welcoming place where we appreciate all people, all cultures, and the talents they bring to our communities.”
The city boasts that it is working with 53 organizations to celebrate cultural diversity and make the environment a welcome one for prospective immigrants.
However, it’s doubtful that it’ll accomplish anything aside from making a few liberals feel like they made an impact. While their hearts may be in the right place, a document certifying that you aren’t a racist does little to stop anyone from being a racist. It’s armchair activism. If anything, the only people who will get any use out of the program will be those intending to mock it.
In addition to saying you’re not a racist, you can now have a paper to certify your claim. Nazis watch out!
