Since there has been contention about the Presidential Election thread devolving, here's a place for anything relating to Trump - for or against, good or bad, or just news.

The president's diplomatic buffoonery has gone from merely embarrassing to downright dangerous.

Last week's news that President Trump badly bungled his conversation with Australia's prime minister was certainly alarming, but in the context of this unending dystopian nightmare in which we all live, it wasn't that bad, really. (Ah, 2017, when the reaction to something like "The President just got into a shouting match with one of our closest allies before hanging up on them" is just a relieved, exhausted "But that's it?").

However, this isn't the only high-profile diplomatic conversation in which Trump showed off his breathtaking incompetence. Reuters has some truly remarkable details of the President's January 28 call with master puppeteer Vladimir Putin, which you should only read after setting down any breakable objects that may be in your hands right now.

In his first call as president with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump denounced a treaty that caps U.S. and Russian deployment of nuclear warheads as a bad deal for the United States, according to two U.S. officials and one former U.S. official with knowledge of the call.

So far, so good. (Again, it's all relative.)

When Putin raised the possibility of extending the 2010 treaty, known as New START, Trump paused to ask his aides in an aside what the treaty was, these sources said.

In case you're unfamiliar with New Start, it's a landmark agreement between Russia and the United States that requires both countries to reduce their numbers of nuclear warheads and launch-capable missiles to a specified threshold by 2018. These seem like details that a president should know before getting on the phone with the other side, but hey, I'm just spitballing here.

Trump then told Putin the treaty was one of several bad deals negotiated by the Obama administration, saying that New START favored Russia. Trump also talked about his own popularity, the sources said.

Even in this leaky-as-hell White House, these are absolutely brutal details to get out. (It's almost as if a remarkable number of the people who work for him took only three weeks to conclude that their boss an incompetent boor). I assume Putin is actually rather quiet on these calls, because he so frequently has to mute the line to prevent Trump from hearing him cackling gleefully and exchanging high-fives with whoever else is in the room.

During a debate in the 2016 presidential election, Trump said Russia had "outsmarted" the United States with the treaty, which he called "START-Up." He asserted incorrectly then that it had allowed Russia to continue to produce nuclear warheads while the United States could not.

This time around, Trump didn't whiff on both the treaty's name and its purpose. Silver linings!

In seriousness, the Australia story was embarrassing, but a few bad kangaroo-pun headlines and one hasty, chagrined John McCain phone call later, the whole thing blew over fairly quietly. The consequences of these types of calls are much more profound. Russia is not a longtime ally of the United States. It is governed by a ruthless dictator who poisons dissident journalists and, it cannot be forgotten, personally directed hacks of the 2016 election with the express intent of aiding the same clownfraud with whom he's now engaging in sensitive diplomatic negotiations. While the President of the United States is busy tweeting attacks at department stores he doesn't like, his lack of fitness for some of the most delicate aspects of his job is putting American interests in real danger, and he's too dense to even begin to understand that.

The White House Situation Room is usually used by the US President to discuss international and domestic crises.

But last week diners at Donald Trump's private country club got an inside look as the President created his own Situation Room — around a dinner table.

Members of Mr Trump's Mar-a-Lago club posted pictures on social media of the President being briefed on and discussing a response to a North Korean missile test in the outdoor dining area of the estate.

Richard DeAgazio posted three pictures on Facebook of Mr Trump and his guest, Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe, being briefed on the situation.

Their discussions on the highly sensitive international incident were in full view and earshot of other members of the club.

"HOLY MOLY!!! It was fascinating to watch the flurry of activity at dinner when the news came that North Korea had launched a missile in the direction of Japan," Mr DeAgazio said in his Facebook post.

Trump now spreading "Fake News" !!

It was unclear following the rally what could have occurred in Sweden to draw the president's attention, and the Swedish Embassy asked for clarity.

A spokesperson for the Swedish Embassy said they didn't know if Trump's tweet served as the government's official response to their request for an explanation.

"We have asked State Department if President Trump's tweet is their official answer to our question earlier today. We are still awaiting an answer on that," the spokesperson said.

Actually, it's not fake news. Sweden's having a terrible problem with the refugees there. It's just not being widely reported on.

Just yesterday:

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/02/21/rioting-erupts-in-immigrant-dominated-swedish-suburb.html

The rates of rape and violent crime are up in Sweden because of the Muslim refugees, but the news gets buried quickly. Sweden doesn't want to appear to have egg on their face.

From accounts that I've read, integration has been mostly, but not completely, successful in Sweden - which does surprise me tbh.

I don't treat anyone like the second coming. I don't engage in celebrity worship. I didn't vote for Trump in the primaries, but I sure as hell wasn't voting for that lying cunt Clinton in the general election. In case you guys haven't been paying attention, news reporting has broke some of the biggest stories of the past 100 years. Think Watergate. That came about because of a news story. And that's just one example. So don't discount it. You don't know what "proper intelligence" he has or doesn't have, and rightfully so. "Proper intelligence" is a matter of national security, so none of us should be aware of the actionable pieces of intelligence that our government has. If we're aware of it, then our enemies are aware of it, and that's not a good strategic position to be in. That's something that Obama could never get.

Who are you to say what a President should act like? They're human beings like everybody else and they're entitled to whatever quirks they have, just like everybody else. I imagine that what Trump puts forward in the public eye is designed to do exactly what it's doing: rile up the left. Look how upset you guys are getting? I hate to break the news to you, but that's exactly how he wins.... making the left rabid and showing the world what they really are.

He treats Fox news as intelligence. That's the problem here.

Fox news is a counterweight to all the liberal-dominated hogwash of "news" reporting that exists in the media today. I don't see it as a problem. Obama watched Fox news and complained about them all the time. I didn't see you bitching about that. Something smells like bias here.

From the accounts you've read? What did you read? Where did these accounts come from? I'm sure all the Swedish victims of rape and violence perpetrated by Muslim criminals in Sweden would agree with your surprise.

If you're so certain that it's such a seamless peaceful transition then take those Muslim refugees you've been trying to pass off to us and see how it goes. Give it 6 months. Then come back and talk to me.

Like I said, I'm surprised that integration has been 'successful'. I am against mass immigration. So I agree with you.

Ok, Fox, NBC, CNN, whatever! Trump should be getting info from more reputable sources. He reeks of intellectual laziness.

I guarantee you, what he's putting out on twitter isn't what's going on in the West Wing. He is dead set against releasing information to the general public unless it's absolutely necessary. He openly and loudly criticized Obama for releasing sensitive information to the public for the past 8 years. There is a method to this man's apparent madness. He's using these public accounts to rile up his political enemies.

No one should ever release classified information but some info is sensitive but does belong in the public domain. If it is that sensitive, it should then be classified and subject to legal protection.

If Obama did do it (and I'm not saying that he did, I'm just floating this for the sake of argument), then he could have done it illegally, i.e. without judicial involvement. Because a politically motivated wiretap wouldn't be legal in the first place, so what sense would it make to involve the judicial circuit for such a thing? And the parties involved could have covered their tracks well enough that a formal legal inquiry wouldn't uncover it with a cursory look.

But no, let's not even consider that possibility on Twitter.

1) You need to understand the implications of using your political power to go after your opposition in the US. It doesn't happen here. IT'S NOT OK.

2) How about lying to the American people? Obama's people came out and said "No wiretaps" yet there's evidence of the DOJ admitting to the use of wiretaps in an article in the New York Times back in November. Now you have Obama saying he didn't authorize seeking the use of wiretaps, yet he did, and NOW HE'S LYING ABOUT IT.

For the record, I didn't like his praise of Putin and I'm no fan of Russia. As far as I'm concerned, the Cold War never ended, it just got paused until Putin took power. I figured once Trump got the lay of the land in office, he'd change his stripes. He's not praising Putin so much now, but then again nobody's really asked him about Putin either. I don't know how Trump really feels but we'll see what happens. If he's a Russian lackey, then he'll get impeached, or if Congress is too pussy to do anything about it, 2020 is right around the corner. He'll be a one-termer.

Go ahead and do your bashing if it makes you people feel better. It's not going to change anything. It's not gonna change anyone's opinions on anything. It would seem he cannot tell the difference.

I don't believe he has withdrawn the allegation at all.

On Thursday, White House spokesman Sean Spicer turned to a Fox News analyst's contention British electronic intelligence agency GCHQ had helped Mr Obama wire-tap Mr Trump.

Fox News has said it could not independently verify the reports from Andrew Napolitano, a former judge and commentator who has met with Mr Trump, and the GCHQ vigorously denied the charges in a rare public statement, saying the report was "utterly ridiculous and should be ignored".

British officials complained directly to White House officials after the episode, and Prime Minister Theresa May's office said it had been assured the White House would not repeat the allegations.

But Mr Trump himself offered no public apologies and suggested there was nothing wrong with the White House repeating what it had heard.

Viewing the video of him and Angela Merkel, his body language was very aloof and standoffish!

I have no problem with it! He has meetings at the club, so there is some productive time. And if it keeps him happy, the countries better off.

His hypocrisy and bluster on the other hand...

**
Instead of quietly asking for Mr Comey's resignation, Mr Trump seemed to choose a course guaranteed to ruffle everyone's feathers, and not for the first time.

**
Host of the ABC's Planet America John Barron agrees.

He says the Supreme Court is the reason Republicans aren't jumping ship and leaving Mr Trump own his own.

"He doesn't live or die by these daily scandals, because as long as he is their vessel for appointing a Supreme Court that reflects their conservative values they're not too unhappy," Mr Barron said.
And without at least some Republican members of Congress on board, you can forget about a potential impeachment (until 2018 at least ... more on this later).

**
Back in March last year, eight months before the election, ABC North America correspondent Michael Vincent referred to then-candidate Trump as "Teflon Donald". No scandal would stick.

In the end, not even being caught on tape boasting about sexually harassing women was enough to stop Mr Trump from winning the White House.

"I think even that stuff, which would be unthinkable in the last administrations, he seems to be able to get away with it," Mr Thomas-Noone said.

**
And despite the fact that Republicans are pretty happy with him, Mr Trump's overall approval ratings are historically bad.

**
Mr Thomas-Noone notes that while the Trump administration has been short of wins in its early days, it's very good at spinning victories when they do happen.

"If they're able to pass healthcare ... they'll spin it as a win," he said.

"They're going to be eager to pass anything as a sign that they can get things done."
Case in point: despite the Republican healthcare plan being a long way from becoming law, it didn't stop Mr Trump from holding a celebratory press conference at the White House when the bill passed the House with the slimmest of margins.

**
Something to keep in mind
The "tidal wave of controversies" may actually be helping Mr Trump.

"Donald Trump is a populist president who is a master manipulator of the media and the news cycle," Mr Barron said.

"He's very deft if a scandal erupts he can change the narrative by starting another scandal. A bright shiny object that he dangles in front of the media that they can talk about.

"Behind the scenes there could be a much more important story."

Instead of quietly asking for Mr Comey's resignation, Mr Trump seemed to choose a course guaranteed to ruffle everyone's feathers, and not for the first time.

That's one way to look at it. There's never really a good or bad time to fire somebody. It's always going to be provocative. There's always going to be some kind of blow-back in the aftermath. Truth be told, if the media didn't make such a ridiculous big deal about it, it would have been a quiet thing that flew under the radar. They're only making it a big deal because it's Trump. Just another thing they can spin to try to make him look bad. Honestly, Trump fired a man that, not but a year ago, all liberals and Democrats in this country were calling for this man's head. And not just last year either. Comey was dogged by the Democrats and the liberal media throughout Obama's presidency.

This is a crock of shit, and here's why: If Trump's impeached and removed from office (assuming he actually did something impeachable, which he hasn't), the next person in the line of succession is the Vice President. Mike Pence becomes President. Pence is way more conservative than Trump is, so even if Trump is impeached, the Republicans still get whoever they want on the Supreme Court, assuming that a spot on the Supreme Court opens up before the midterms. The Republicans aren't going after Trump because at this point in time, there's no evidence that he did anything illegal. Period, end of.

That's funny. We said the same thing about Obama and Hillary Clinton, especially Hillary since she's been at it since she was the first lady of Arkansas.

And despite the fact that Republicans are pretty happy with him, Mr Trump's overall approval ratings are historically bad.

And the polls said that Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump for the Presidency by a landslide. Don't believe the hype.

It is a win. Getting the House to team up and pass anything is like pulling teeth. But I understand the criticism. The real win will be when the Senate and the House see eye to eye on it and Trump passes what they send to him into law.

Or no story at all. The media's the villain here. I know you don't want to believe that, but it's absolutely true. All these scandals just serve to show how the media is manipulative of the narrative.

More fodder for the media to salivate over. And they are. He does it intentionally and has been doing it intentionally since he jumped into the race for the White House.

That's funny. We said the same thing about Obama and Hillary Clinton, especially Hillary since she's been at it since she was the first lady of Arkansas.

And the polls said that Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump for the Presidency by a landslide. Don't believe the hype.

It is a win. Getting the House to team up and pass anything is like pulling teeth. But I understand the criticism. The real win will be when the Senate and the House see eye to eye on it and Trump passes what they send to him into law.

Why did I know that if there was a response to this post it would be from you :?:

Just a comment further on the dismissal - Trump has made this overly public. A discreet and tactful diplomat would have asked for a resignation and kept it low key. But we all know Trump is certainly no diplomat.

As for illegal activities..... No evidence as yet! There may never be any evidence but until all investigations are completed we definitely don't know.

Trump has declared war on the press and made them his enemies so they are certainly not going to be doing him any favours.

Be happy I'm talking to you. When I'm not talking, I'm so ridiculously angry that I can't think straight.

I can't let you run all over the place on this. You're not questioning anything you see in the media. That thing about the Republicans and the Supreme Court is evidence of it. You have no idea what these idiots are saying and you're just running with it. You need to listen to us. These media people are fucking idiots, Monk.

Trump is the antithesis of tact and diplomacy. That's what we wanted. We're tired of the diplomatic politician, because it's easy to be diplomatic to our face, then turn around and stab us in the back. With Trump, you're getting everything in your face, full force.

There is no evidence of anything. Even Obama's people stated under oath that there was no evidence of anything. They would know before anyone else.

Trump has declared war on the press, and rightfully so. They deserve everybody's scorn. They're taking sides. They shouldn't be. They're picking winners and losers. They shouldn't be. They're pushing a point of view instead of just reporting the facts. They shouldn't be. There's no real reporting anymore, it's all just a biased editorial opinion, and you're buying into it hook, line, and sinker. They're feeding you your opinion, they're not giving you all of the facts on all sides of the argument so that you can make up your own mind. And it's not just you, and that's why we Americans on this board are all frustrated. Because other Americans are doing it too. They don't know how things should really be, they're not being taught civics, they're being indoctrinated into a point of view that will only serve to burn our country down.

Time will tell....... The rest of the world sees Trump differently than Americans do. The Yanks see him as some sort of messiah and the rest of us see him as some sort of idiot. I wonder who is right and who is wrong???? Time will tell.....

I just think the guy won so he deserves the time and reasonable treatment to do what he promised. I don't see him as anything other than the candidate who better represented my philosophy and interests. As Hillary and Barack love to say, "elections have consequences". Funny, you don't hear that now, do you... "The Yanks" are not even close to in agreement as you seem to think. Half the country agrees with you and is just screaming nonsense all day. #nevertrump #theresistance #impeach. Apparently wanting to give him a shot after HE WON has somehow become some ridiculous idea.

Reminds me of a joke. Guy is bitching at his girlfriend. "You're too fucking tight and your tits are too fucking small" She replies, "get off my back!"

Now we have Trump leaking sensitive intelligence to the Russian ambassador..... Can't hold onto his ego... he likes to show off what he knows.

According to the Washington Post story he told the Russians: “how the Islamic State was pursuing elements of a specific plot and how much harm such an attack could cause under varying circumstances... Trump revealed the city in the Islamic State’s territory where the U.S. intelligence partner detected the threat.” That agent under the control of an American ally that could possibly be the UK, is probably dead by now. The Russians although they have their own issues with Isis, would have no qualms leaking this info to them as long as no Russian lives were at threat in order to undermine the intelligence alliance in the West. Indeed both Russia and its ally, the Assad regime in Syria have been accused of aiding the Islamic State as much as they fight it, depending on the circumstances. For Putin’s Russia, the West will always be the primary enemy and any chance of weakening Western intelligence cooperation will be a chance not to be passed up on.

In this instance, he hasn't used his normal puppets to issue the denial (Conway & Spicer) but the head if the NIS to give the denial more weight.

There are just far too many blunders from this man to ignore them.

Is it true that the current Russian ambassador was the first to see the inside of the oval office? invited by Trumpy?
and to have it pictured and filmed by Russian media, but not US media?

Heard this today, but you hear so much, I don't understand your system, but was this the case?

Yes, I believe that is true. Not the normal protocol I gather. But Trump is a show off and boaster ......
