Two asylum seekers have been charged with molesting five girls aged between 12 and 14 at a public swimming pool in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein.
A local police report compiled by officers working in the town of Ratzeburg states that the two suspects are “southern-looking” men who apparently molested the children under the water.
According to the report, the men are aged 23 and 34. They are said to be living in Bad Oldesloe.
The incident was reported to lifeguards working at the pool. They reacted rapidly, ejecting the men before telephoning the police.
This is the latest in a string of reports concerning inappropriate behaviour from recently arrived immigrants and asylum seekers in Germany and other European states.
Last July, Heat Street noted that German police had quietly acknowledged this growing problem following a series of unpleasant incidents.
A private police briefing was leaked to the media which showed officers were struggling to cope with the consequences of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s policy of inviting one million immigrants to Germany in the space of about a year.
The report stated: “In particular rape and the sexual abuse of children in bathing establishments have given us grave cause for concern. The perpetrators are, for the most part, immigrants.”
A professional swimming association in Germany has suggested training migrants to become swimming lifeguards as a means of reducing sex attacks at swimming pools. The Federal Association of German Swimming Professionals (BDS) said last July that this would be “an inclusive measure that would benefit everyone”.
