I've said before, I think there's going to be a really ugly time between when AI starts taking a material number of jobs, but doesn't make all our lives great enough to not work.

I work in insurance underwriting which I've seen ranked in top 10 most susceptible jobs. I have coworkers who refuse to believe our craft of examining and pricing risk can be done with computers, but they're wrong (which is why I'm trying to get into niche areas of insurance that are more difficult to replace). Truck, bus and cab drivers make up a huge number of jobs in North America, obviously assembly workers, personal assistants, data entry, translators, fast food and cashier employees, telephone dispatch, perhaps even IT support... all could go in the next couple decades. Even lawyers and doctors will probably have a portion of their work taken by AI in the next century. What are millions of people supposed to do?
