A QUESTION Time audience member received a rapturous applause after hitting back at claims Brexiteers didn’t know what they voted for.

He said he has no problem with foreign citizens living in the UK, but wants “England to look after it’s own first”.

He told the panel: “Im sick and tired of hearing politicians and everybody say that British people don’t know what we’ve voted for.

“We voted to get out of the single market, we voted to get out of the EU, and we voted to become Great Britain again and not part of Europe.”

He added that those who condemn the use of the word ‘foreigner’ are wrong, and admitted his own Russian wife is a foreigner.

The audience member added: “I’m sick of people saying we can’t use the word ‘foreigner’ about people that have come here.

“I think we need to stop messing around and allow Brexit to get on - get out and stay out!”

The claims were made during a discussion about the rights of EU nationals living in the UK post-Brexit after the House of Lords voted overwhelmingly in favour of an amendment to the Prime Minister’s proposed Brexit legislation.

Peers have demanded Theresa May guarantee the rights of EU nationals currently living in the UK within three months of triggering Article 50 and notifying Brussels of Britain’s departure.

The Government had hoped its Article 50 Bill would pass through the House of Lords unamended, as it had through the House of Commons.

But the successful amendment over the rights of EU nationals means the Bill will now return to MPs for their reconsideration after it completes its passage through the House of Lords.

A total of 358 peers voted in favour of the amendment, with 256 voting against.
