A casting call for 'white' actors to portray a 'typical Aussie family' has sparked online backlash.

Media company Eden Creative listed the casting call on online talent directory Star Now.

A spokesperson for Eden Creative told Daily Mail Australia there was an error and no ethnicity was part of the casting brief. The listing has been taken down and replaced.

The advertisement was seeking a family-of-four to act in a run of television commercials, and stipulated their ethnicity be 'White / Caucasian'.

Journalist and actor Rae Johnston on Tuesday shared the listing on Twitter, saying: 'TV commercial casting for a 'typical Aussie family' but only white people can apply.'

Her followers were equally outraged the listing did not appear to reflect the reality of Australian families.

'I mean I'm honestly just so bored of this onslaught of vanilla mayonnaise TV representation we always have to endure,' Good Game host Angharad Yeo wrote on Twitter.

'Representation matters so, so much and I will fight for it forever.'

A spokesperson for Eden Creative said the error had since been rectified.

'We are aware that there has been some interest in one of our casting calls. We have investigated the issue and been advised there was an error with the form published, which led to a tick box being selected that was not part of our casting brief,' a statement provided to Daily Mail Australia said.

On Twitter, one person had questioned 'WTF' a 'typical Aussie family' is.

Another Twitter user simply wrote: 'Ughhh.'

The casting call said the commercials would be shot on board an 'all expenses paid international cruise' later this month.

'We need a fun, active, hardworking and sociable family! Having a great time with each other is incredibly important to you!,' the casting call read.

'Mum and dad you're freedom loving and easy going. We can really see you enjoy having fun together as a couple, as well as with the kids.

'We're after your typical Aussie family of four.'

An ethnicity was not stipulated for the son and daughter, but they needed to look like the parents

The requirements stipulated the ethnicity for the parents be 'White / Caucasian', while the children needed to look like the parents.

The listing has since been replaced and no longer stipulates an ethnicity.

A spokesperson for Star Now told Daily Mail Australia all complaints are taken seriously, but none were directly made in this instance.

'We take complaints very seriously and investigate all listings that we receive complaints about,' the spokesperson said in a statement.

'In this instance, we've received no direct complaints, however the advertiser has been in touch to amend the requirements, to allow applications from people of any ethnicity.

'For the purpose of casting, our website allows advertisers to select particular ethnicities if this is a specific creative requirement of the production.

'In this instance the selection of an ethnic requirement was simply selected in error, and once this was noticed, the error was actively corrected.'
