DEVELOPING – At least two people were shot and about a dozen were injured after a shooting outside the House of Parliament in London on Wednesday, reports say.

London police confirmed officers were called to 'firearms incident' on Westminster Bridge near the Parliament building. No other information was available.

The leader of Britain's House of Commons says a man has been shot by police at Parliament. David Liddington also said there were "reports of further violent incidents in the vicinity."

Britain's MI5 says it is too early to say if the incident is terror-related.

Witnesses on scene said about a dozen people were injured on the Westminster Bridge. Another witness told Sky News that there was an "almighty crash" as a vehicle hit the railings outside Parliament.

A witness told Sky News: "Someone rushed through, attacked a policeman... he appeared to be carrying a knife. We heard lots of gunfire."

Commons speaker John Bercow suspended the session as police responded to an incident.

Prime Minister Theresa May is safe, a spokesperson told reporters.

Journalists at the Parliament building said they were told to stay in their offices.

The Press Association news agency reported that two people were seen lying within the grounds of Parliament.

Police had no immediate confirmation.

British police said Thursday that six homes were raided and eight arrests were made in connection to the terror attack that left five dead, including the attacker and a police officer.

Armed police carried out the raid in the central city of Birmingham, about 130 miles north of London. Police said they believed the attacker acted alone and was “inspired by international terrorism.” The identity of the attacker has not been released.

UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon added that the assumption is the attack was related to “Islamic terrorism in some form.”

The chaos unfolded on the Westminster Bridge near the Parliament building when an SUV mowed down pedestrians on the bridge. London metro police counterterrorism Chief Mark Rowley said that 29 people were hospitalized and seven were in critical condition.

British Prime Minister Theresa May called the attack a “sick and depraved” act, but did not elevate the terror threat level, which was already at severe.

Three civilians were among those killed. Rowley identified the officer as Keith Palmer, 45, who had served as an officer for 15 years.

Rowley said Wednesday it was still “too early” to release the name of the attacker, but added that officials "think we know who the attacker is and are working to establish who his associates are."

Armed and unarmed patrols have been stepped up as a precaution across the country, he said.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility of the terror attack that left four people dead, including the attacker and a police officer, outside of London’s Parliament building on Wednesday, according to AMAQ media agency.

The claim of responsibility comes fewer than 24 hours after a man a man driving an SUV plowed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge near the Parliament building. Two people were killed and more than 30 others injured before the attacker fatally stabbed police officer Keith Palmer on the Parliament’s grounds. Police shot and killed the attacker.

It's just so complicated. A very similar attack on Parliament (with far few casualties thank god) happened in Canada not too long ago. The rage you feel in the next few days is insane. It's so painful to think that someone who was allowed here in good faith was religiously motivated to try and attack your country's heart.

But it fades. You realize it's such a deep and complex issue, you remember you personally know good Muslims, even ones who served our country, and you also know that many many refugees here deserve a chance at a good life because places like Syria are literally hell on earth, partly because of our own government's tinkering.... I think 99% of people understand this rationally, but the blind rage you feel after an attack is so real. It's sad that some will act on it with a sort of misguided vigilantism, just like it's sad that someone attacked us in the first place.

I dono where I'm going with this. It's not just so simple as shrugging and saying 'one bad apple spoils it for the bunch.' It's a problem with no good solutions.

Authorities in London made two more "significant" arrests in the investigation into Wednesday's terror attack that sent shock waves through the country.

The latests arrests bring the total to nine. One woman was released on bail, Reuters reported. Authorities are working to determine if the attacker, Khalid Masood, who died at the scene, was directed.

Masood killed four in the attack outside British parliament. Police said they believe Masood, 52, acted alone when he drove an SUV into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before stabbing a police officer on the Parliament’s grounds.

The dead included a British policeman, stabbed repeatedly, an American tourist who was celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary and a school administrator adored in the Spanish town where she spent summer vacations with her family. A 75-year-old victim of the bridge attack died late Thursday after he was taken off life support, police said.

Authorities said two officers are listed in critical condition. Reuters reported on Friday that the attacker’s birth name was Arian Russell.

According to police, Masood was born in Kent, U.K., and they believe he was most recently living in the West Midlands, which includes the city of Birmingham.

Masood was known to authorities and had a range of previous convictions for assaults, including grievous bodily harm, possession of offensive weapons and public order offenses.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the rampage, saying Masood was “an Islamic State soldier” who “carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of the coalition.”

London has been a target for terrorism many times over past decades. Just this weekend, hundreds of armed police took part in an exercise simulating a "marauding" terrorist attack on the River Thames.
