A Scottsboro man has been arrested twice in less than two days in alleged incidents involving his 74-year-old mother.

According to Sgt. Erik Dohring, of the Scottsboro Police Department, James Arthur Roberts, 50, was first arrested Thursday after officers responded to domestic call in the 900 block of Buchanan Street.

Dohring said when officers arrived Roberts was sitting in a chair holding a skillet while his mother had locked herself in the bathroom.

"The house was a complete mess," said Dohring.

Roberts was charged with domestic violence third degree and resisting arrest.

After making bond, Roberts was arrested again early Friday morning.

According to Dohring, Roberts' mother came home from work and found her son intoxicated.

"He began threatening her about calling the police," said Dohring.

Dorhing said Roberts allegedly assaulted his mother by pushing her head-first out the front door onto the concrete pavement.

"[Roberts] then tied her to a chair and forced her to write checks," said Dohring, adding the suspect was armed with a knife.

Later, Roberts left the house by taking his mother's car after allegedly forcing her to give him the keys.

He was arrested a couple of hours later on South Broad Street attempting to cash a check.

Roberts has been charged with robbery first degree, unlawful imprisonment, domestic violence third degree, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and DUI.

Roberts was taken to the Scottsboro City Jail, then later transferred to the Jackson County Jail, where he remained Friday with no bond set.

Dohring said Roberts is also wanted in Marshall County.
