A 2-year-old South Elgin boy was treated for an opioid overdose and was revived with Narcan following a 911 call in the 1000 block of South Elgin Boulevard, according to South Elgin police reports.

According to police reports, the call came at 12:07 a.m. April 10 for a child who was not breathing and who was gasping for air.

The toddler was revived after South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District paramedics administered Narcan, a drug used to stop heroin overdoses, police said. The child was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital and was later transported to the pediatric intensive care unit at St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates, according to police reports.

The boy was released from the hospital at 1:30 p.m. that day to his parents with a safety plan that does not allow the parents to be left alone with the child. The maternal and paternal grandparents agreed to stay at the home with the child, the police report stated.

Also found in the house were various drugs in an open safe, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
