A man has been decapitated on the London Underground after he fell from a moving train while trying to smoke a cigarette.

It is believed the 52-year-old forced open the emergency exit doors between the carriages and fell through the gap at about 1.30am local time.

He was dragged underneath Metropolitan Line train, which was travelling at 80km/h, when his head was severed from his body.

Emergency services recovered his body after hearing reports a man had fallen from the train and power to the tracks was cut off immediately.

Transport police believe his death was an accident and are not treating it as suspicious.

They should use this for a stop smoking campaign! http://smilies-and-more.de/pics/smilies/smoker/031.gif

Prop up his head with a broken cigarette in his mouth, and say "Don't lose your head over cigarettes" "Cigarettes are hazardous to your health"

We have people getting hit by our intown metro trains and I don't get it...there's limited tracks, they have crossing arms at intersections, they have 15 foot areas painted with bright yellow lines saying don't go beyond here, the platforms themselves are raised about 10 feet off of the ground. There's all sorts of built in safe guards, yet people still feel the need to pull crap like this
