I had a a landline with ATT until last year.
I got tired of paying them $40.00 a month for mediocre service so switched to VOIP server Ooma for $4.00 a month. Plus I was able to keep the same number I've had for 30 years.

I don't where this article actually differentiates between land lines and VOIP

Truth be told, I'm not the only one in the house and older people aren't so quick to adapt to newer ways. I personally don't use the land line. I never answer the phone. 98% of the time, it's spam, and the other 2% it's for the aforementioned older person, so it holds no value to me. I keep it around for that older person.

I do too, it's actually cheaper to keep it the way Comcast bundles things than it would be to drop it.

I don't consider a VOIP line a "land line"

Ditto. Haven't had a landline in over 10 years. I'm not going to pay a bill every month so that only telemarketers can call me.
