Poached eggs are the one thing that makes this confusing, mess of a world worth living in.

Which makes the latest egg-related food trend, ‘cloud eggs’, ever more distressing.

There were once fried eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs and deviled eggs (though I’ve never figured out what they are), but cloud eggs exist in some dark limbo in between all of these things.

Apparently, cloud eggs are made by separating the egg yolk from the white and whipping the latter to create a thick, fluffy consistency.

This white is then popped into the oven on a baking sheet for five minutes, before being taken out and the yolk put back on top of it.

It’s then put all back in the oven for a few minutes before serving.

Which sounds like, well, a lot more hassle than just frying it.

WHY? (Picture: lovelychef_tw/Instagram)

The justification for this crime being that they look like little suns poking through a cloud.

Which they don’t, by the way.

And the result?

An egg that looks as if it needs putting out of its misery – not even through the honorific route of being eaten but straight in the bin.

Some have even had the audacity to sandwich other things between them – is there nothing that people won’t use as a bun?
