Teh One Who Knocks

2 pitchers starting today and every field position except 1 OF spot and 3B

Glad I'm not playing you today. I've got 3 infielders and 1 outfielder, 1 starting pitcher and 3 relievers and that's it.

My lineup is full tomorrow and on.

It doesn't matter day by day, the stats are for who has the better total week

That makes up for days when some teams will have hardly any players playing that day. They will post the 'score' of the series and update it every day, so one day you may be crushing the team you are playing, but the next day they could significantly close the gap and even win the week.

It just kills me that I took great pains to choose a bunch of players so I could cover every position in case my main players got injured or weren't playing, and on opening day, 3/4 of my lineup is gonna be watching tv.

The days that are usually the worst are the travel days between series (usually Mondays and sometimes Thursdays). Very few teams are playing on those days you may be lucky to have 2 players in your line-up that are actually playing that day

Teh One Who Knocks

By player....the player is locked into your roster a few minutes before that players game starts. For anyone who's game hasn't started yet, you can still move them around

DemonGeminiX
04-01-2011, 06:28 AM
You see all the stats along the top of the matchup page where the two teams are on top of one another? Whoever wins a column gets a point for winning that column. On mine, GF and I tied in hits (3), doubles (0), RBIs (2), stolen bases (0), caught stealing (0), SLAM (0), wins (0), loses (0), called games (0), shutouts (0), saves (1), home runs (0), no hitters (0), perfect games (0), and blown saves (0). So those don't count toward points. I took one field: ERA and get one point for that. He took the rest of the stats, 11 in total, so he gets 11 points.

Technically, he should have more as Joey Votto hit a home run, but I'm not sure why Yahoo didn't score it. So technically, the score for yesterday should be 12 - 1 in his favor.

DGX has it exactly right

Look at this RBP:

http://i.imgur.com/A4xmw.jpg

The stats in bold are the categories that you have one for the day and therefore you get a point for each of those categories. Now that is only after opening day, you have a whole week to get your team to win the most categories. The score for me against Joebob is 16-4 in my favor right now, but all it takes is for his team to have a good day and me to have a horrible day and that score could easily flip-flop. The only stats that matter is who has won the most categories by the end of the series which is the end of the week (this opening series is an extra few days longer because of when opening day was).

Papi's a DH. I want to know if Boston intends on actually letting him bat today in the Pitcher's slot instead of letting Lester, Papelbon, et al bat.

Basically, what I'm saying is am I going to get some numbers out of Ortiz if I put him in my lineup today? Or is it going to be a waste of a utility position?

That may be true, but it's advantageous to pay attention everyday to see the last minute scratches and substitutions from games and to be able to tell who the starting pitchers are going to be for the day when you're not familiar with certain teams.

Yeah, I can't tell if Boston's going to play Ellsbury, but I know Philly's playing Francisco. The Philly game starts about an hour before the Boston game. I guess I can watch for another hour and a half before the Philly game starts to see if the little carat appears on Ellsbury, but it would help to know in advance. I want Ellsbury in my lineup if he's playing.

Teh One Who Knocks

Well, unless he's hurt you can probably assume he will play. If you look at his history (not including last year where he was hurt most of the season), he played in 153 games and 145 games. so on average he sits out less than 3 games a month.

That's why I'm here to help ;)

A lot of times, good veteran players get their days off if there's a day game going on in a getaway day. For example, sticking with Ellsbury, say Boston is in a series at home that runs from Tues thru Thurs and then they are playing their next series the next day (Fri thru Sun) in Minneapolis. The Thursday game (the last game of the home series) is typically a day game to allow the teams to catch flights at reasonable times that evening. A lot of times (not always though) that's when a lot of veteran players will get a day off.

Again, that's just a rule of thumb, and isn't always going to work that way.

how the fuck can you get injured playing baseball?

Depends. You can get hit by a high speed ball and get hurt, you can pull a muscle during a start-stop fielding motion, you can run into a teammate or into the wall while fielding a popup. Hell, you can sprain a leg muscle on uneven ground relatively easily.

DemonGeminiX
04-05-2011, 08:18 PM
Looking at the current 2011 stats, they're both currently hitting extremely well. (Honestly, I don't see why Mush doesn't sit Hanley Ramirez out and play Castro's numbers instead. Castro's doing that much better right now.) On that aspect alone, it's a pretty even trade. But if you look at their careers, Kendrick is a really good hitter. And he's currently doing better than the rest of your first basemen. I'd put him in a utility role as a feeler for now and get his numbers. If your other's don't pick up, I'd seriously consider using him as your primary first and dump the one's that aren't doing as well, keeping one with the second best numbers as backup or utility.

Wait, so are you telling Mush to take the trade or decline?

Personally, on your end: If you have the ability, withdraw the offer and use Kendrick where appropriate.

If I was Mush AND I had a backup SS, I might consider the trade. But because all he has is Hanley Ramirez and Castro's hitting that much better than Ramirez, I'd hang on to Castro and play him, either benching Ramirez, or playing him in a utility role if he's doing better than the other players he has in those roles. Again, use the players where appropriate... but there's a little more to how I decide what I think is an appropriate situation to use a player.

So technically, I'd tell him to decline the trade and make you go fish in the free agents.

What you got to be sorry for? Perish the thought. If you can win, then win. If you can win big, then fuck it, that's the game.

Worst team? With your lineup? I don't think so. You got some wicked batters and they're doing really well right now. You and Mush lucked out something fierce in the draft. I'm still waiting for a few of my batters to wake up. It doesn't help that the best batter on my team is on the DL. I can't really complain about my pitching staff, although if Cole Hamels ever pulls what happened to him in New York several days ago again, his ass is getting dropped. You were up by one when the Yankees/Red Sox game started last night. I had David Ortiz (Red Sox) in my lineup and you had CC Sabathia (Yankees) in yours. Those were the last players in both of our lineups to be playing before the final tally. We had several categories that were tied, notably the runs and pitching losses. David Ortiz got a run, giving me a one run edge and giving us a 10-10 tie overall. But Sabathia lost the game, giving you more pitching losses than me, which gave me the category and one extra point.

To be honest, with your lineup, I thought you were gonna murder me. I think some of the moves I made really helped me out... and having some of the Phillies in my lineup helped out a great deal too... especially towards the end of the week. The Phillies really turned on the juice versus the Braves.

Most of the time, as long as it's a big name player, they will play in both games, so you get 2 days worth of stats in one day....but it can go either way. It's just as likely the player could go 0 for 8 as he could go 4 for 7, you just never know.

As a rule, I always play guys that are involved in a double header, I think it's worth the risk.

Your roster's full. You get one of each: Catcher, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, SS. And 3 OF's, 2 Util's, 6 Bench spots, and 2 possible DL slots that frees up an extra place on the roster. To get another pitcher on your staff without dropping another one, somebody else on your roster would have to go onto the DL, and when the player on the DL comes off of it, I imagine that you'll be forced to choose to keep the player you added or the player coming off of the DL.

So they're only appearing because they played for him during this week's series before he decided to drop them. 5+15+7= 27 columns of stats in the matchup tallied over the week. Against your opponent, you won 5 columns, you lost 15 columns, and you tied 7 columns.

When this week's tally is added to your current "record", the win-loss-tie numbers will reflect it.

I suppose the standings are determined by the percentage found by dividing the number of wins by the number of total columns.

But you only get 6 bench positions when your positions are full. So In total, you should have a 25 man roster, not counting the 2 possible DL spots.

I didn't smoke you. It was pretty even up until I squeezed that win out against you at the very last minute. But it looks like your batters are starting to wake up, which is what I was afraid of.

And you're looking at your current matchup against Mush, not the current standings. That's why it's showing 0-0. None of your players on either of your teams have played yet.

Your record is in the front page standings. You're in third place, but if it was one division, you'd be in second behind RBP.

I love how Mush isn't even paying attention, doesn't know fuck all about the game, and yet he's still on top of his division.

I just made a change to the weekly requirements...now there is a minimum number of innings that each team needs to meet for the stats to count. It shouldn't affect anyone that pays attention to their team, but as a warning, if you totally ignore your team, you may not hit the minimum innings limit if you don't get your starters rotated on the days they are scheduled to pitch.

I don't get it. A minimum number of innings that each team needs to meet? Why would you change that and how many innings do we need each team to meet?

:-s

It's pretty straightforward....everyone's team has to have a minimum amount of innings pitched per week (set at 24 innings). If your staff doesn't get a minimum of 24 innings under their belt (which is very easy to surpass in 7 days), you don't get credit for you pitching stats.

I changed it to take to 'blind luck' factor out of it...it's not right for people in the league to be able to completely ignore their team and 'luck into' good stats while the people actually taking time to be involved and have fun with it all are the ones being penalized.

There goes Mush's team.

I set it fairly low, so even with teams being ignored, there's a chance the minimum will be hit.

But I went and looked...for example, my team pitched more than 50 innings last week, and your (DGX) team pitched more than 70 innings last week...well over the 24 inning minimum

It keeps track of it for you so you can stay on top of it...you should see this now at the bottom of your team roster (this is from my team)

I do have an obscene amount of starters, though. On some nights, I might have two or three starters playing. I picked up two pitchers expecting them to get some relief work and they've switched over to the starter position. McClellan and Harrison are the ones I'm thinking about. When I picked up McClellan, he wasn't even originally listed as a starter, just a reliever. His status became starter last week to my surprise.

I hope all of my starters do well. I'd hate for all of them to start getting yanked after 2 innings.
