DAYTONA BEACH -- An 18-year-old Ormond Beach man threatened people with a shotgun and called them racial slurs during a road-rage incident, Daytona Beach Police said.
William Ramey has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in connection with the incident Monday.
Investigators said Ramey was the driver of a red-and-silver Ford F-150 that was behind a minivan at Seneca Street and International Speedway Boulevard at about noon.
According to witnesses, when the light turned green, Ramey became impatient with the minivan, honked his horn then swerved around the minivan. A verbal confrontation ensued between Ramey and the man and woman in the minivan, during which Ramey yelled racial epithets at them.
Ramey then pulled a shotgun out of his truck and threatened the minivan riders with it, investigators said.
When a police officer who was dispatched to the scene asked Ramey how his day was going, he said, "not good," and then explained that he almost had to shoot a ni**er, the police report states.
Ramey also faces marijuana possession and underage alcohol charges. He was taken to Volusia County Branch Jail.
