LOCALS in a small Mexican town have filled the streets to celebrate the anniversary of discovering the image of Jesus on a mushroom
People in the town of Chignahuapan filled the streets with festivities, on Tuesday, in an annual celebration marking the finding of the holy fungus.
The sanctified shroom is held in a clear box inside a gate of the local church and is believed to be over a century old.
Some in the town even claim the mushroom has the power to heal the sick
One local said: “My grandfather was the person who was in charge of opening the church, and according to what he told us, he died almost 100 years old and the mushroom already existed, they say it is 137 years old.”
Another claimed that the magical mushroom was found by a lumberjack in the woods who then showed it to the local priest.
Some say that the fungus has magical powers with local Araceli Vazquez Gutierrez claiming it cured her nephew.
Sh said: “A nephew of mine had an accident and I asked not to take him away, because he was in very critical condition and was not going to resist surgery.

“But thank God everything went well. Both times I asked, the little mushroom answered very well.”
The festivities shown in footage included a parade through the streets by masked people as well as a blessing by the local priest.
