PEKIN — A young Peoria man will serve an 11-year prison term for having sex with a 14-year-old girl and sending a video recording of the act to her girlfriend.
Benjamin Frantz, 21, pleaded guilty in May to one count each of child pornography as a Class X felony and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor five years younger than him. He was sentenced last week to eight years on the former charge and three more on the latter.
Frantz had only minor brushes with the law before his arrest in the case last January. He’ll also be required to register as a convicted sex offender.
He had sex with the Washington girl last December after the girl’s friend told him the girl was 16, court records stated. He recorded the act on his cellphone without her knowledge and sent it to her friend, who posted the video on a social media page.
Frantz, then 20, had sex with the girl a second time that month, despite knowing she was 14, records stated. The girl and her mother reported the acts to police in January.
It was not known whether the victim’s friend, also a minor, was prosecuted for posting the sex video onto the internet.
