Hey dude,
So you recall my claims that the rabbits were massing and plotting to commit some heinous act against me?

I have more proof. These pictures were taken (seriously) in my garden yesterday.

The Mama rabbit had five babies and decided to camp out in one corner of the garden. I didn't plant any vegetables this year and just weeded it so the rabbits, squirrels and Americans would stay out of it. Guess it didn't work.

At first it was kind of cute, then it got serious and I felt sorry for the Mama. Two magpies were trying to get the babies. One bird would distract the mother, then the other would swoop down and attack their nest. All of them are gone today so I hope they moved to a safer locale.

 maybe they're INSIDE THE HOUSE???

I was reading a forum for advice on what to do. Call pest control? Try to move them myself? Leave them alone? The thread creator had the same problem as me with a rabbit nest.

Most of the subsequent posts were of the awww cute variety in reaction to his pictures that were posted.

One guy posts - heat the oven to 350 degrees, grease baking pan lightly....

the other users were mortified!

What about a sling shot

That's how we took care of squirrels that tried to fuck with our garden. Didn't kill them but usually scared them off for a while.

Because I'm not a redneck American like you GF

The Mom is now patrolling an area by the bushes that separate my yard from the neighbors. She's quick and angry and will not have ANY birds coming near the hedge.

There's a vid instructing people to be careful when cutting the lawn. It's been a few dry winters and a very dry summer so the lawns are turning brown and I guess the little brown baby rabbits blend in quite well with the brown patches.

The online comments for that are horrible too

Come on, a slingshot isn't redneck, it's Bart Simpson at best, you won't hit shit anyways

Also Re: mowing lawn, definitely want to be careful. I hit a little snek in the grass a few years ago and it didn't die so I had to finish it with a shovel. I felt terrible... who'd have thought killing a little garter snake would feel bad, but I did.

Yes but it's still hunting and killing, them baby rabbits didn't hurt me in any way (yet).

I'm trying to remember some comments from the lawn mowing warning video....' Cool, now I have red pinstripes on my mower and the blade is lubricated.'

what?

Ya man I have brown patches on the lawn and don't want to run over a nest of tiny bunnies

Plus, we have the new composting bins so I would totally see the rabbit mulch dumping out the grassbag

I was weed eating under a crape myrtle and found a nest of them. The one I hit hopped away but didn't appear to be hurt when I caught him and put it back in the furr lined hole in the ground. There were 4 that I saw but a few hours later they had apparently migrated the 10 feet to the deep grass.

After posting that movie poster yesterday, I was inspired to find Night Of the Lepus.
Damn! It wasn't near as good as I remembered it as a teen in the 70's. :)

Yep, pretty sure that my Mama rabbit has moved her brood over to the hedge. She has been there all day standing guard and keeps going after the magpies...what a tough gig
