A former Indiana high school volleyball coach was accused this week of having sex with a student and sending him photos of her bare breasts, according to local reports.
Carlee Mae Barmby, 22, of Lafayette, was an assistant boys volleyball coach at Jefferson High School when a student came forward to police that she had sent him lewd snaps, The Journal & Courier reported.
In an April 18 interview, the student — who was between 16 and 18 years old — told detectives that he and Barmby had sex at the coach’s home several weeks earlier, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by the paper.
That same day, Barmby told police “it was highly possible she had sexual intercourse with the student,” but she couldn’t remember “because she was impaired on alcohol at the time,” the affidavit said.
Investigators discovered an April text conversation with the teen on Barmby’s phone, where she acknowledged “that sexual contact with [the student] is illegal and would result in her losing her job,” according to the affidavit.
Barmby was fired as early as April 19, Lafayette School Corporation officials told the paper.
She was booked into Tippecanoe County Jail on Wednesday night, without bond, the paper reported.
Another volleyball coach for the same team, Alejandro Del Real, 20, was accused of knowing about the sexual relationship between Barmby and the student — but never contacting authorities, according to The Journal & Courier.
He allegedly advised the student to delete Barmby’s nude photo from his phone, according to a separate affidavit obtained by the paper.
Del Real was charged with attempted obstruction of justice, obstruction of justice and failure to make a report, the paper reported.
