LAS CRUCES -- The 19-year-old woman charged earlier this year with having sex with a 12-year-old boy is again in jail after police say she pulled a handgun on her sister Thursday morning.
Melanie Maya Freeman had allegedly gotten into an argument with her sister, threw an object at her and then displayed a handgun and threatened her sister with it at around 10 a.m., according to the Las Cruces Police Department.
After fleeing the 1900 block of Avenida de Mesilla, her listed address, on the back of her 38-year-old boyfriend's motorcycle, she was arrested early Thursday afternoon at the man's home on the 1500 block of Burke Road, where she initially refused to come out, according to LCPD.
The 38-year-old was not charged.
While in a holding cell at the Las Cruces Police Department, Freeman allegedly escaped briefly from her handcuffs, but officers were able to quickly restrain her. She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, intimidation of a witness and resisting or obstructing a police officer and has been jailed at the Do-a Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $20,000.
Freeman is scheduled to begin a two-day trial July 16 after officers attempting to serve two outstanding municipal warrants on April 20 allegedly found her in bed with the boy, according to the Las Cruces Police Department. As police escorted Freeman to a patrol car that day, she allegedly kneed one of them. She is charged with criminal sexual penetration of a minor, a first-degree felony, battery on a peace officer and the two outstanding municipal warrants.
