A disability benefits cheat caught out after taking photos of herself snorkelling has escaped jail.

Linda Hoey, 58, wrongly claimed £65,244 in disability benefits, and used a motability vehicle to avoid £15,690 in M6 Toll fees.

She managed to deceive the authorities for 15 years before her ‘bare-faced lies’ unravelled, and it transpired that she had been in paid employment since 1997.

Sentencing her at Stafford Crown Court, Judge Michael Elsom told her that she was ‘someone whose word cannot be trusted’.

Hoey, from Amrington in Tamworth, was given an 18-month jail sentence suspended for two years. She has also been given a six-month electronic curfew.

Hoey had claimed she could barely walk, and that she suffered such bad back pain that she had to walk backwards down the stairs and use furniture for support.

Medical evidence given in court did show that Hoey had what the judge called ‘a degree of disability’, but she had greatly exaggerated it to make the claims while remaining in work.

Her ’15 years of dishonesty’ was then uncovered by photos of her snorkelling on holiday, and by her colleagues who said she would carry trays of cups of tea.

‘At the time you were telling those lies you were actually going to work every day, driving yourself to work every day and you were observed walking,’ Judge Elsom told her.

He added that her claims ‘were nothing more than bare-faced lies which you continued in this court’.

‘I hardly think you merit the description your daughter gave you, as someone to whom she can look up to as a role model,’ the judge continued.

‘If that’s the sort of role model that your daughter thinks is appropriate – that’s a very great shame indeed.’

Boss's wife worked in insurance her entire life...corporate, then private, adjusting, then fraud.

She worked with a group that did the literal - You have won a prize, come on down and collect your shit. She filmed people lifting items from shelves and/or into their cars and then
gave evidence in court to dispute their disability payments. She had something like a 95% turnover rate, meaning anyone she investigated got busted and had to repay disability claims.

 GF, this is your jam
