Police arrested a University of Southern California (USC) professor after she yelled “active shooter” and had students lock doors and take cover on the floor, incidents that caused students to report gunshots and needlessly send the campus into a lock down.

USC told its community to take shelter after the unidentified professor shouted “active shooter,” which provoked students to report gunshots, reported ABC7. Police investigated gunshots reported at the University of Southern California Monday and found no evidence of crime, injuries, or a shooter.

“We’re trying to figure out what our best course of action is going to be with [the professor],” Phillip Tingirides, the Los Angeles Police Department deputy chief, said to ABC7. The professor had “some sort of an episode,” he said.

“Police searching Fertitta Hall. Shots reported but not confirmed,” said USC on Twitter. “Shelter in place.”

The event occurred the day after the Las Vegas massacre, which claimed at least 58 lives and injured more than 500 individuals.

We need more information. If the professor wasn't basing her outburst on any sort of physical evidence, she has to be examined by a head doctor or charged.
