More than 50,000 people took the streets of Manchester today in a huge anti-Brexit march to mark the start of the Tory party conference.
Chanting ‘bollocks to Brexit’ thousands of campaigners and activists descended on the streets surrounding the conference centre at Manchester Central.
A heavy police presence and security operation costing a reported £2 million is hoping to ensure no repeat of the 2015 fiasco where conference visitors were bombarded with abuse as they arrived.
While it may be Prime Minister Theresa May’s 61st birthday today, there’s no sign of a let-up in the anti-Government activity.
Campaigning group ‘Stop Brexit’ unveiled a float especially for May’s birthday entitled ‘Brexit is a monstrosity’, featuring a hideous mash-up of the senior Tory cabinet.

Earlier today, a banner reading ‘hang the Tories’ attached to two models swinging underneath caused fury among MPs.
The Tory MP for Lichfield, Michael Fabricant, shared a picture of the banner plastered across a bridge on Twitter, and said: ‘What a charming welcome to Manchester and the Conservative Party Conference.
‘These aren’t protesters, they’re fascists.’
The Tories were not the only political party upset by it, with the city’s mayor Andy Burnham condemning the banner.
He tweeted: ‘This is just wrong. We will always protect the right to protest but never to threaten, abuse or incite violence. It should come down.’
