An Oregon middle schooler is being sued along with his parents after he poured hydrochloric acid all over a science classroom.

Salem-Keizer Public Schools filed a lawsuit Monday accusing the boy — who was 12 years old at the time of the June 2016 vandalism — of causing up to $19,000 worth of damage, OregonLive reported.

In the suit, the school district blames the boy’s mother and stepfather for failing to “exercise reasonable control” over their son.

The student had been disciplined a dozen times in the eight months leading up to the damage, OregonLive reported. At least two behavioral episodes at Crossler Middle School prompted administrators to contact the boy’s parents.

The boy’s father said that his son was accompanied by several other students, and thinks that they should also be responsible for the damage.

The boy was disciplined after the incident. He did community service and was banned from sports teams, OregonLive reported.

The lawsuit describes the circumstances leading up to the acid incident.

The boy and a friend roamed the school’s hallways, trying to access unlocked classrooms during a volleyball tournament.

The pair entered a science classroom, and accessed a stash of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, iodine and food coloring, according to the suit, OregonLive reported.

They doused the room in chemicals, causing $19,293 in damage, the suit said.

In the lawsuit, the school district cites a seldom used parental responsibility law stating that parents “shall be liable” for property damage by their children.

The law limits the amount to $7,500.

It sounds like the kid and his friend both need psychiatric evaluations.
