In 2013, Seth MacFarlane joked during the Academy Awards nomination press conference that the five best supporting actress nominees “no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein.” His co-presenter Emma Stone uncomfortably laughed at his punchline.

Nathan Lane recounted an altercation with Weinstein when the film producer threw him against a wall at Hillary Clinton’s birthday party.

Ewan McGregor alleged on Wednesday via Twitter that it was a known Hollywood secret writing, “It's about time this came to light and he is getting [his] just deserts. Heard rumours over the years but this is awful. Bye Bully!"

Rose McGowan, one of Weinstein’s accusers, shared a screenshot of an undated exchange she had with several people in the past. She captioned the post, “Bob Weinstein is a POS. They allllll knew.” Bob, is the brother of Harvey, who recently denounced his brother as a "sick man."

Asia Argento, who accused the former movie mogul of rape, said she reenacted the alleged sexual assault in a 1999 film. She claims Weinstein saw the scene and joked about it.

The hand wringing

Many of those close to Weinstein have spoken out against their former friend, all while claiming ignorance of the extent of his behavior.

Ben Affleck lashed out on Weinstein on Tuesday. He wrote on social media, “The additional allegations of assault that I read this morning made me sick. This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to others. We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughters. We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behavior when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power."

Matt Damon was accused of trying to quash a scathing piece about Weinstein but he claims he is innocent. In light of Weinstein’s allegations, Damon said he was surprised, telling Deadline: “I did five or six movies with Harvey. I never saw this. I think a lot of actors have come out and said, everybody’s saying we all knew. That’s not true. This type of predation happens behind closed doors, and out of public view. If there was ever an event that I was at and Harvey was doing this kind of thing and I didn’t see it, then I am so deeply sorry, because I would have stopped it. And I will peel my eyes back now, farther than I ever have, to look for this type of behavior. Because we know that it happens. I feel horrible for these women and it’s wonderful they have this incredible courage and are standing up now."

George Clooney echoed Damon’s sentiments of shock to The Daily Beast. “I’ve known Harvey for 20 years. … But I can tell you that I’ve never seen any of this behavior — ever.” He added, “It’s indefensible. That’s the only word you can start with. Harvey’s admitted to it, and it’s indefensible.”

Leonardo DiCaprio said on Facebook, “There is no excuse for sexual harassment or sexual assault — no matter who you are and no matter what profession. I applaud the strength and courage of the women who came forward and made their voices heard."

Colin Firth revealed to The Guardian that Weinstein was intimidating, saying, “He was a powerful and frightening man to stand up to. It must have been terrifying for these women to step up and call him out. And horrifying to be subjected to that kind of harassment. I applaud their courage.”

Benedict Cumberbatch, who stars in the upcoming Weinstein production, “The Current War,” released a statement: “We need to collectively stand up and support victims of abuse such as the brave and inspiring women who have spoken out against him and say we hear you and believe you. That way others may be emboldened by our support to come forward and speak. But we shouldn’t wait until there are any more stories like this. We, as an industry and as a society at large need to play our part. There has to be zero tolerance of any such behavior in any walk of life. We owe that to these women’s bravery in coming forward."

Hollywood without Harvey

While Hollywood reels, many are trying to come to terms with short- and long-term effects of this scandal on the entertainment industry. Experts predict more accusations may come to light.

“The days of the Hollywood establishment bullying and browbeating reporters into burying stories about serial bad behavior are over. There are simply too many media outlets, too many ways to disseminate information, and not enough gatekeepers,” said Scott Pinsker, a branding and communications expert. “What was once whispered behind closed doors will become headline news. … Nobody believes that Harvey Weinstein is the only predator in Tinsel Town. More heads will roll."

Kevin Blatt, a celebrity crisis manager based in Los Angeles told Fox News, the Weinstein drama is just the beginning of what will be more accusations against powerful men in Hollywood.

“The short-term effects are that many powerful studio execs, casting agents and people in power in Hollywood will be forced to govern themselves accordingly. The long-term effects? There will be many industry women looking to expose those who wronged them in the past. This is just the tip of the iceberg,” Blatt predicted.

But not everyone is convinced the abuse of power will end.

“Absolutely nothing will change long-term in Hollywood. It’s not a town of men versus women. It’s a town of the powerful versus the desperate,” said Hollywood film producer Colin Goldman. “To believe the Weinstein scandal changes everything is to believe it’s the first-ever story of those in power abusing those who want something from them very badly. It’s happening again, somewhere, right now, today in the industry.”

I don't understand all of the furor over this. There have been claims for decades that this sort of impropriety runs rampant in Hollywood and that the old Jewish producers were/are at the heart of it.

You wanna work, you gotta hit the casting couch with Hymie the executive producer of the film...

Brando, Gibson...if you get down in the weeds of some of their bigoted statements, this comes out quite a bit. Jewish producers = large money and power in La La land

Yeah, it's not like he's under arrest. Just disgraced. The practice will probably continue with or without him

As I am sure that a lot of women had no problem putting out for producers to get roles.

I'm torn on the stories. I'm sure he's a scumbag and used his position to manipulate. But most of Hollywood is scumbags - and to Hal's point this has been a known process. Not supporting any of it at all, but they knew. It's not like the women turned down the roles as a matter of principle based on how they got them.

Maybe they should send a message by forfeiting everything they profited from the roles they got from producers they sucked/fucked.

Rose McGowan says she was raped. Okay, maybe she was.... but since the word "rape" is now nuanced to the point of being meaningless, I can't interpret the story.

And Rose sure is crying loud and far!

Agree that victims shouldn't profit from crimes against them so readily, especially since being raped is determined by their state of mind (which appears to change over the years). However, for genuine victims it's their only recompense.

Film director Oliver Stone would not condemn Harvey Weinstein's sexual harassment allegations on Friday, saying "it's not easy what he's going through."

"I believe a man shouldn't be condemned by a vigilante system. It's not easy what he's going through, either," Stone said at the Busan International Film Festival about the swirl of sexual abuse claims against Weinstein, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Decades of accusations against Weinstein were first broke by the New York Times, and the revelations have encouraged others to come forward with their stories of mistreatment at his hands.

During the comment about the allegations against Weinstein, Stone said he wouldn’t comment on gossip and he’ll wait to see what happens, calling it "the right thing to do."

"I'm a believer that you wait until this thing gets to trial, I believe a man shouldn't be condemned by a vigilante system. It's not easy what he's going through, either," Stone said. "During that period he was a rival. I never did business with him and didn't really know him. I've heard horror stories on everyone in the business, so I'm not going to comment on gossip. I'll wait and see, which is the right thing to do."

After the New York Times reported about Weinstein settling multiple sexual harassment claims, the New Yorker reported on at least three other women who accused Weinstein of rape. Weinstein has also been recorded in a sting by New York police admitting to groping a woman.

Stone is known for his far-left politics and has expressed admiration for the late socialist Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez. Stone was also panned for a recent series of obsequious interviews of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Stone is a two-time Oscar winner for Best Director. Although he has never worked directly with Weinstein, he is currently teamed up with Weinstein Television working on a documentary about Guantanamo Bay.

I apologize in advance, cause this is a horribly ruthless and tasteless thing to say: If Rose McGowan was raped, then I'm sincerely sorry for her. But frequently, when watching her performances, the thought "Who the hell did she fuck to get this part?" entered my mind. She's not exactly an Oscar or Emmy caliber actress. In fact, she's fucking horrendous 99.99% of the time in the things I've seen her in. Again, if she had been raped, then I'm genuinely sorry, but I wouldn't be surprised if she was fibbing a bit here to get her name in the spotlight for a few moments.

If a woman was forcibly raped, as in held down or not allowed to leave the area with the producer, we're talking about a crime here.

But if it's a case of - Woman gets propositioned by the producer and agrees to the sex in order to get the acting work, then that's on her. I look at it no different that any other job and if my latter example is the norm, the one thing that perhaps people like Rose are missing is that she could of walked out at any time. Yes, that may close the door to any future work in the industry, but then she has to think - Is this the industry I want to devote my life to if it's structured this way?

As mentioned, not sticking up for Weinstein or the age old casting couch stories. I do feel there is a choice there, and while it may not be a good choice, if the person can walk away from it then they should.

Completely coincidental timing I am quite sure.

And everything is contextual as previously mentioned. Fact is, in the 90's we all got pussy by manipulation. No meant keep trying.

DISGRACED film producer Harvey Weinstein had sex with a woman in the back of his car as she begged him, “Don’t hurt me”, his ex-chauffeur has alleged.
Weinstein then allegedly took her into a hotel and slept with her again while his pregnant wife slept in a nearby room, reports The Sun.
His driver Mickael Chemloul, 56, told how Weinstein was known as “le pork” (“the pig”) by locals in the South of France.

Chemloul alleged the filmmaker also kept an emergency stash of condoms and Viagra in his Mercedes’ glove compartment.
Speaking at his Cannes apartment, he told The Sun how Weinstein, 65, reportedly regularly picked up girls when he was at film and TV festivals in France and allegedly attacked Chemloul while he was driving after two East European escorts failed to show up.
Chemloul, Weinstein’s regular driver in the south of France from 2008 to 2013, said, “Weinstein was a terrible man to work for. Everyone knew him as le pork because of his size and because he sweated so much. When he came to Cannes we all knew what to expect.”
He recalled how the mogul once picked up a woman at a billionaire’s yacht party — while pregnant wife Georgina Chapman stayed behind at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc.
He said, “She was a good-looking girl, around 25 to 30, who had clearly had a few drinks. This was a fairly familiar sight for me, but even I was shocked when I heard her say, ‘Don’t hurt me’ in the car.
“I turned and saw her with her head in his lap and him pulling her hair. I knew Georgina decided to stay in her room and miss the party because she was feeling tired.
“I said to Harvey, ‘Are you sure?’ He replied, ‘Just drive to the f**king Cap’.

“When we arrived, Harvey got out with the girl and headed for another room. He was with her until 5am and left her there to go back to Georgina.
“The worst of it was that Georgina phoned me at 4.30 while I was trying to catch some sleep in the car and asked me where Harvey was.
“I was in an awkward spot. All I could think of was he had gone for a meeting with some business friends. I felt forced to lie.
“I remember a night porter saying to me, ‘What is he doing coming in with a hooker when his wife is asleep upstairs?’
“When Harvey finally turned up he looked in a right state, sweating like a pig with his shirt out. ‘What did you tell my wife?’ he blurted. To be honest, he sickened me.”
The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc is where Italian actress Asia Argento alleges Weinstein sexually assaulted her in 1997. A string of other women have also accused him of sexual misconduct, including rape, assault and harassment.
Chemloul said, “He would have Viagra, chewing gum, Coca-Cola and loads of M & M’s sweet packs in the car. It gave him the energy to carry on the way he did.
“It was so stressful working for him — I was taking him to parties and I know he was going to orgies as well but I had to keep quiet.
“Harvey gets so excited in the presence of women that he trembles, he shakes, it’s as if he is having an orgasm.

“One day he was leaving a beach lunch on the Croisette in Cannes and he saw two attractive girls on the pavement go in. They looked like models or actresses.
“Harvey turned to me and said, ‘Tell them who I am and that I am a film producer’. It is hard to believe but he was shaking. As he followed them in, he was gently groping them. A day without sex for Harvey is like a summer day without sun. The glove box always contained contraceptives for when he had a pressing need, along with Viagra and all the medicinal pills and tablets he had for his health.
“I have seen him attend three dinners in one night and still go later to the villas well known for their orgies with police outside to protect the guests.”
But Chemloul recalled how Weinstein was allegedly minutes from death at Naomi Campbell’s birthday party at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc.
He said, “People ran out to say Harvey was flat out on the floor and could hardly breathe.
“Luckily for Harvey someone found a surgeon who lived nearby on the Cap D’Antibes.
“It appeared he had eaten so much from the buffet that it was too much for the sort of gastric band he had fitted.

“The surgeon did a manipulation that allowed Harvey’s food to go down, so he could breathe more easily. He told me Harvey would have died within 30 minutes if he had not intervened.
The amazing thing was that when he opened his eyes and saw me, he said, ‘F*** you, go home.’ Then he went back to the buffet and started eating again.’’
Chemloul quit working for Weinstein after he allegedly attacked him in 2013 when he failed to track down two East European prostitutes.
Weinstein was at a launch party at VIP hangout Club 55 in Saint-Tropez — and afterwards handed Chemloul a note with two phone numbers.
He then said, “Find out where these girls live.”
“The arrangement had already been made and Harvey only wanted the address. That was so he could pick them up and enter the hotel with the girls as his guests.
“Trouble is they were not there. They had misunderstood and caught a taxi to the hotel where staff wouldn’t let them in.”
Chemloul said furious Weinstein then hit him while he was driving and crushed his $3000 shades in his fist.

The Sun was shown the complaint Chemloul filed to Cannes police about the incident, which left him with a broken finger, bruised ribs and facial injuries.
He alleged Weinstein said, “The Mafia will find you and put you in the boot, you will disappear and no one will know what’s happened to you.
“He then dragged his index finger across his throat as if to indicate I would be guillotined.”
Chemloul added, “He attacked me violently as I was trying to keep the car on the road. I stopped the car and told me I would never work for him again. But it still wasn’t over for him. His last words he screamed as he went into the hotel were, ‘Go and find those bitches.’’’ Weinstein denied the attack to police. The investigation was later dropped because there were no independent witnesses and Chemloul waited too long to make a complaint.
Chemloul added, “It’s poor Georgina I feel sorry for the most. I drove her a few times and she was always very sweet. I think she was embarrassed by the way her husband bullied me and his other staff. Thankfully I won’t see or work for him again
