A man in Copenhagen could be facing a lengthy sentence after accidentally handing himself into the police.
The male, who was roaming around trendy Christiania hopped into a police car after mistaking it for a taxi.
Not a huge mistake, right? Well unfortunately for the lad, he was carrying 1,000 joints on him. Don’t ask me how anyone manages to carry 1,000 of anything on them.
Copenhagen Police wrote on Twitter:
"\Last night a cannabis dealer from Christiania who wanted to get home quickly got in a taxi. He received a big surprise a big surprise when he realised it was actually a police car he was sitting in."
The police officers were happy to see him, since he was carrying around 1,000 joints.
They later tweeted saying the man could face a custodial sentence for the offence.
Several other raids and drones have been used in an attempt to clampdown on drug dealing in the Christiania area of the Danish capital. Freetown Christiania used to be a military base until the 1970s, when a group of hippies squatted in the place and created the autonomous neighborhood.
Today, approximately 900 people live in the area, creating a community that has its own rules and where decisions are made through meetings. The cannabis trade that was taking place over the past years in the “Green Light District” became the main reason for the tribulations, with police officers invading the place and arresting dealers on the regular.
The use of drugs is illegal in Denmark, even behind the doors of the hippie neighborhood. Still, although cannabis stalls with space cookies and rolled-up joints no longer exist, Christiania’s guests are able to buy weed.
According to the Culture Trip, Christianites ask people to buy their drugs elsewhere. After Pusher Street was closed, the city was covered in posters, created by the inhabitants, with the words reading, “Help Christiania — buy your hash elsewhere”.
