Former Billy Joel gal pal and Long Island lawmaker Trish Bergin Weichbrodt caused a s–tstorm after she poked fun on Facebook at countries President Trump allegedly derided as “shit*holes.”
“I’m looking at warm getaways for kids February break. I’m wondering about El Salvador, Haiti or Somalia #recommendations?” snarked the Republican Islip councilwoman.
The remark drew fire from Democratic Suffolk County legislator Monica Martinez, who posted that she was inundated with complaints from angry constituents.
Bergin Weichbrodt, 46, initially answered the blowback on Facebook by writing: “Are some of my loved ones not getting my joke??”
As the firestorm spread, she deleted the divisive post.
The former TV news anchor, who broke the Piano Man’s heart when she nixed his marriage proposal in 2000, posted a mea culpa Saturday morning, saying, “I have learned that my Facebook post [Friday] offended some of you. Please accept my sincere apology.”
