INDIA and Pakistan are heading towards a “war like situation” as conflict along the contested border dubbed the Line of Control (LoC) intensifies, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir has declared.

Farooq Abdullah issued the stark warning as he blamed both nations for escalating tensions that have led to the “destruction of people”.

He declared: “Are they the only ones who're firing? We're firing too.

"Both sides are doing this. This has led to the destruction of people. This is leading to a war like situation."

Mr Abdullah explained that the only solution to the horrific conflict is a dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad.

He went on: “War is never a solution to anything. The only solution is dialogue.

“Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) part which is with Pakistan belongs to the neighbouring country and this side to India.

“If the Indian government wants peace it will have to talk to Pakistan and conclude that an autonomy be given to us as well as them.”

The PoK is also referred to as the Azad Jammu and Kashmir is the self governing administered state of in the region.

Tensions continued to soar between the two South Asian after four Indian soldiers were killed and one was wounded after Pakistani troops fired on Indian posts in the Jammu region.

One of the soldiers killed in the shelling was an officer - the incident took place on Sunday.

The deputy commissioner of the Rajouri sector in the area, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, emphasised the horrific hostilities taking place on the contested border.

He explained: "The situation is tense currently on the border.

"The latest shelling was ongoing until late on Sunday.

"Most of the areas near the border have been affected due to the ceasefire violation. Though it is difficult to evacuate the civilians at night, we are continuously monitoring the situation.”

Over 12 people were killed last month as clashes between the two sides intensified - six of them were citizens.

The tense situation on the border has led to both sides claiming they were responding to attacks from the other as tensions soar - both say provocations are a violation of a 2003 cease-fire agreement.

Most of the conflict between the two nations has taken place in the boundary separating the Indian-controlled region of Kashmir and the Pakistan province of Punjab.

Civilians have been dramatically affected by the conflict with buildings demolished and cattle killed as tensions soar.

In total, India has evacuated over 36,000 people from its border to escape heavy shelling from Pakistan.

The region of Kashmir has been contested for decades - the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947 and 1965 both revolved around competing claims for the area.

I've posted this before so I'll be brief, but scientists have already speculated even a limited nuclear engagement between these countries would cause a nuclear winter that would kill of tens of millions around the world. Scary shit.

It would be great to have an objective account of what is happening in Kashmir.

Please explain?

By this point in time, Global Warming alarmists like Al Gore had said that the polar ice caps will have melted enough to submerge the coastlines badly enough that places like Florida would be completely under water.

Yeah this a kinda a Gaza Strip like conflict....these guys have been battling for decades, if not centuries.

My big fear...countries like India and Pakistan attempt to use their bargain basement nukes and ignore UN threats. I think it's a real possibility.

He didn't say that and he's not a scientist. :)
