Like to get your drink on early in the morning? Enjoy free pizza? Don’t mind doing a few one-leg stands? The Vancouver Police Department is looking for you.

The police force has put out the word that they are looking for volunteers to get drunk on the police dime, in order to train new recruits on how to conduct sobriety tests.

The request is contained in an email recently sent to select members of the police department’s Block Watch neighbourhood watch program.

With a subject line reading “Volunteer Drinkers Needed,” the email says eight to 10 volunteers are needed to head down to a local police station early in the morning to get a little sloshed.

The volunteers will need to drink a few shots of hard liquor (“no beer or wine,” the email stresses), and then complete three sobriety tests:

a simple eye examination
a walk-and-turn test
a one-leg stand test

After a few hours of testing and a free pizza lunch, volunteers would then be driven home around 4 p.m.

All volunteer drinkers would have to sign a waiver promising not to drive for the rest of the day. And they would also have to agree to conduct themselves “in a respectful manner” in the police building.

The volunteers would be allowed to get their blood-alcohol concentration only to a certain level decided by instructors, so it won’t be a complete free-for-all boozefest.

And only those between the ages of 24 and 60 with no medical concerns need apply. Anyone taking medications that can’t be mixed with alcohol are also out of the running.

Interested parties were asked to RSVP, including in their email the drink and mixer of their choice.

I like how they will be helping you reach a predetermined limit, not just giving you 2.5 drinks.

And - "You will be expected to conduct yourself in a respectful manner as you will be in a police building."

*hal jumps up on table after a few*

All police are pigs and can suck my criminal dick!!! Hahahahaha! *shoves beer bottle up ass* You'll never catch meee, wheeeee!

 My brother and I were joking about doing this, sounds fun.

My cousin is VPD. He was saying as part of their training, one day half the recruits got drunk slowly while the other half continually breathalyzed them, then the next week they switch. Apparently he found it it pretty to get a good feel for what you blow on the machine after each drink and how you feel... but that’s also very subjective

This is a friend of a friend of an Uncle's third cousin removed story...actually I heard it from one of my Dad's friends when I met him.

Dad's friend says his neighbor's son was recruited to drink and smoke pot for a driver's ed film. The film was quite old, late 70s or early 80's and the dude said they paid each person in the film acting scale pay of the time (something like 75 bucks per day) and he got absolutely shit faced  Closed course to do the driving tests and really good weed according to the guy.

I took driver training and do recall seeing a really old film where smoking pot and drinking were involved.I wonder....

 Oh man, that's awesome.

I was part of the 'scared straight' generation so I'm being sincere when I say I would ever drink and drive.... but on a closed course, I'd pay them $75 to let me try drinking and ripping around in a beater car. That sounds like a blast.

I remember the stopping test from the film I saw for some reason (decades ago)..

The people who were high on weed 'thought' they had stopped on a certain line and most of them failed

Oh and the weed people were super tentative...one person thought she was driving 35 mph and she was only going around 16 mph

yay weed!

I won't drive if I've had more than a single beer.... but even at that I must have a guilty conscience because if I hit a roadblock even after a single beer my heart starts racing

Same here.

Especially true since they dropped the legal limit from .08 to .05 eh. That's scary low. Even after a night of drinking I don't want to drive until the afternoon the next day
