I just checked my DVR...it says that it was the new episode of Supernatural that was listed on IMDB, but it's an episode of Nikita instead :|

Hal-9000
01-29-2011, 07:54 PM
Nikita is actually a pretty good show. You have to watch from the start and I find it doesn't go into the 'superhero' 007 agent zone too often.
Plots are realistic and the show overall is not a happy one

too bad about Supernatural, looks like Wiki > Imdb in this case

Teh One Who Knocks
01-29-2011, 07:56 PM
Yeah, but my online TV Guide said that it was Supernatural too :wha:

Hal-9000

I really hate when you read an episode description and they get the ep number wrong....episode 12's description for episode 11 etc....grrrrrrrr

Teh One Who Knocks

Sam: So who likes gold and virgins?

Dean: P Diddy

I was going to quote that one

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 04:18 PM
I liked the look on Dean's face when they were pretending to be FBI agents to interview the missing girl's sister. Sam was being his old self being all compassionate to get her to agree to answer questions. Dean just had a smile like it's good to have the old Sam back.

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 04:20 PM
Yes you never realized how uncaring the old Sam was until he got back into the groove on the recent episode.

I still liked the time Dean was abducted by UFO's/faeries and Sam made a booty call, then tried to understand what he should be doing at that moment

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 04:22 PM
One of my favorite moments...

Dean - Sword, meet the 21st century

Dean - Sword, meet the 21st century

You have insurance for this, right?

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 04:31 PM
I couldn't believe that part...only a couple of swords left, one being Excalibur and Dean does that

It was refreshing to see actually

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 04:33 PM
I liked how they had the dramatic music playing as he was about to attempt to pull the sword from the stone....then the music dies as he falls off the rock

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 04:37 PM
 The whole show was great.....now for the serious question.

The Mother of All = The End of the Series?

:-k

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 04:40 PM
Also, best opening music of the series I thought....as the song is building up while doing the THEN and NOW sequence and Tyler's vocals kick in...it was awesome

Not sure what she means to the series...I mean, there's not many more uber-demon type things they can fight anymore :-k

She's hot tho 8-[

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 04:46 PM
They keep referring to purgatory and the alphas of each race... and what happens to them when they die.

They've done demons and head demons and satan....she's probably going to be something like the giver of birth to all that is foul, kinda like Britney Spears.

 and yes she is very attractive

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 04:50 PM
I was kinda disappointed....she rose out of Purgatory and then looked at one of the dragons and said "You kept me waiting"....I was hoping she was gonna be pissed and snap their neck or something.

And did I mention she's hot? 8-[

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 05:00 PM
and it only took ONE virgin....

I wanted to see all of those nancy-girls cast down into the pit

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 05:02 PM
Yeah, I don't get why they needed so many if they were only bringing one 'person' up from purgatory :-k

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 05:03 PM
I like how they drink with almost every meal

Here Sam I brought some breakfast....beer?

Hal-9000

So when do you think that Sam will start scratching the wall.............

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 05:18 PM
I'm gonna guess immediately

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 05:25 PM
Cas seemed pretty angry at Dean that he arranged for Sam's soul to be returned.

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 05:29 PM
Yup, pretty much summed it up when Cas said that if he (Dean) wanted to kill Sam, he should have just gone and done it outright

Hal-9000
02-06-2011, 05:42 PM
Cas and Sam - No hug as that would be awkward

Teh One Who Knocks
02-06-2011, 05:49 PM
That was too funny

Kinda pisses me off that Bobby's holding a grudge against Sam

As soon as death said, it's only a barrier, not a cure - I think we all knew that Sam's head would be bursting into flames soon

Hal-9000
02-14-2011, 02:22 PM
hey did you guys know that part of this series is filmed in Canada?

(not sure if that's true, just wanted to try the cool new post icons)

Teh One Who Knocks
02-14-2011, 02:23 PM
I assumed it was filmed in BC...seems like many TV shows are filmed there :-k

Teh One Who Knocks
02-14-2011, 02:23 PM
As soon as death said, it's only a barrier, not a cure - I think we all knew that Sam's head would be bursting into flames soon

Yup...and what a very ominous way to end the last episode.

Hal-9000
02-14-2011, 03:52 PM
I hate to sound trite...the series ends in May if I'm not mistaken, so they probably need to get things going with Sam losing his fricking mind!!!

Teh One Who Knocks
02-20-2011, 09:06 PM
I think there were signs in this last episode that they are gonna wrap the series up this season. I haven't seen anywhere that there is talk of renewing it. :(

Hal-9000
02-20-2011, 09:22 PM
I think it comes down to the antagonists in these series...they've done demons, Satan and most of heaven's angels...what next?

The Mother of All sounds like finality to me.I remember reading about the break in between season 5 and 6...the writers were talking about 'what next' at that time.
I hope it keeps going, really enjoy the show no matter what they're hunting.

Teh One Who Knocks
02-20-2011, 09:35 PM
You know, I would be happy to see them just go back to hunting regular demons like they did in the first couple of seasons

Teh One Who Knocks
02-20-2011, 11:33 PM
What didya think of the episode Pony?

Hal-9000
02-27-2011, 05:50 PM
I thought the latest episode was funny in spots....didn't care for the 'removing of the fourth wall', using real names etc.It doesn't do much to suspend disbelief...

that being said it had some good yuks

Teh One Who Knocks
02-28-2011, 02:23 AM
You didn't like that they came to 'meet' their real selves? I thought it was hilarious

Hal-9000
02-28-2011, 04:38 PM
You didn't like that they came to 'meet' their real selves? I thought it was hilarious

No not really. If it was a Christmas special or something like that it would have been alright...not near the end of an important season like this. They used the actor's real names, the writer, the producer etc.

On the other hand...when they first tried to 'act', I was rolling on the ground laughing. The in-jokes like making fun of their names (and Mischa's), the joke about them not talking to each other like primadonnas and of course the Canadian references all made me howl.Probably the best laugh I had was in Sam's mansion...the big picture of him riding the horse in the background?

oh and Mischa screaming like an old woman was good too

Pony
02-28-2011, 10:29 PM
Yea, Mischa was cracking me up.

I could have done without the director rolling his eyes and saying "season 6..." over and over. It's almost like saying "we're out of ideas, are we done yet"

Hal-9000
03-06-2011, 07:33 PM
They're getting back to the old formula...do some research, go to the town and gank some monsters

Teh One Who Knocks
03-13-2011, 09:03 PM
Just got caught up...great episode. A lot of carnage though....I think it all goes to tying up loose ends to bring the series to an end at the end of the season.

NCIS is finally back this week after being gone for 3 weeks :wha:

Hal-9000
03-21-2011, 11:02 PM
a writer with a net blog brought that up recently citing 'the old days' when a TV season would renew in the fall and play until May...no huge breaks during Christmas or February or whenever.

It was quite good, heavy on the sarcasm regarding current TV.

Teh One Who Knocks
03-21-2011, 11:05 PM
Yup, it's absolutely ridiculous now...back then (and not all that long ago either) series had more episodes to a season and they completed them in less time than what they do now. :wha:

Hal-9000
03-21-2011, 11:11 PM
most people attribute it to the writer's strike and shows like Lost....

I loved Lost but that show started some sort of stupid standard where they feel the public can wait

Teh One Who Knocks
03-21-2011, 11:18 PM
Yup, it's crazy....new season starts, they show around 6 weeks worth of episodes then take a couple of weeks off, throw in another 4 or 5 weeks of new episodes, then take most of November and December off blaming it on the holiday....then repeat after the first of the year dragging out the last 10 to 12 episodes over the next 5 months :|

Hal-9000
03-21-2011, 11:25 PM
and most (real) shows make 22 episodes per season...in the old days anyways

Teh One Who Knocks
03-21-2011, 11:45 PM
There were even more episodes to each season the farther you go back. There were some series that had as many as 28 episodes for each season...now we're lucky to get 20 or 22 :|

Pony
03-22-2011, 12:05 AM

Funny you mentioned that, It's the series I'm downloading in HD before the FS account runs out.
And season 1 is 25 eps
season 2 24 eps
season 3 23 eps
season 4 (writers strike) 14 eps
season 5 17 eps
season 6 18 eps.

See a trend there?

Teh One Who Knocks
03-22-2011, 12:20 AM

Yea, I suppose they could have tested them off screen. But in that case how did they pass? Did Eve make a hybrid that couldn't be detected?

I have a feeling she's not gone for good. It was almost too quick and easy for a main villain. Not like she was a Jefferson Starship or something.

Yeah, it was just the youngest boy that was the hybrid. It sure would have been nice if they would have showed which tests they put the boys through to see what he passed to convince Sam & Dean that they were human.

Some of it might have been that they were orphans and Eve even said she did that on purpose to try and have them gain their sympathy, so maybe they skimped on the tests. :-k

I'm on the fence as to whether Eve is gone or not. I sure wish they would quit killing off all the hot demons/monsters :(

And now that we know that Cas is working with Crowley, does that mean the whole scene where Cas shows up with Crowley's bones was set-up ahead of time and that they were both in on the dog and pony show? So fill me in please...I never did quite get why Crowley and Cas are working together.
To somehow find purgatory and harness the energy? For what?

They made an implication that Lucifer and Michael are not out of the picture...

Teh One Who Knocks
05-09-2011, 01:52 AM
This is what I gathered from everything so far:

Souls have some kind of 'super properties' that will give Cas the advantage in the war with Raphael. Crowley also wants to use the souls to secure his position as King of Hell because he made a remark about things aren't all easy for him either. So Crowley made the offer that if he and Cas work together, they can split the 30 to 40 million souls that are in Purgatory which will swing everything in each of their favor in their wars in Heaven and Hell.

As for Lucifer and Michael, they aren't gone per se, just locked in the pit. And Raphael wants to let them out and resume Armageddon and bring on the end of days, that's why Cas is fighting the civil war in heaven.

Hal-9000
05-09-2011, 01:55 AM
Ahhh, the key behind Raphael and Cas fighting.Raphael thinks Armageddon should have occurred, according to the divine plan.

I like how even the angels have to ask about God, His whereabouts, His influence...whether He's there at all.. Only that one female angel implied that God is the one that brought Cas back after Lucifer toasted him.

Teh One Who Knocks

Exactly...Cas is of the mind that the angels are free now and that the end of days wasn't God's will at all since it was changed. Raphael believes that it is God's will and that it must happen.

Teh One Who Knocks

Teh One Who Knocks
05-09-2011, 02:03 AM
I did feel bad for Cas that whole episode because he really does think he's doing what needs to be done. You can clearly tell he doesn't like working with Crowley and you can see how torn he was about having to lie to the guys.

05-09-2011, 05:32 PM

Still thinking back to the last episode. The more I think about it, the more I think it was one of the best episodes of the entire series (for me).

Just listening to Cas lay out his confessions right there and finding out at the end of the episode that he was actually confessing to God and just looking for a sign. And I think it was just so....I can't think of the word, when he during he recounting of everything leading up to the apocalypse he said: It was averted by two boys, an old drunk, and a fallen angel. The grand story, and we ripped up the ending, the rules, and the destiny.

Sad part is with these shows..a lot of the writing direction depends on ratings, whether they will cancel this year or next year or the year after. It must cripple the writer's creativity having to work without knowing how long the story arc can continue, when the show actually will end...things like that.

Teh One Who Knocks
05-11-2011, 09:23 PM
Yeah, it definitely would be hard writing for a 1 hour serial type TV show. Thank God this is on the CW and not FOX or CBS because this show never would have lasted this long. And for being on the smallest US network there is, it's one of the best written shows on TV, period.

I thought it was great and unexpected to say the least.

Where did you guys expect it to go? They've already defeated every evil thing in the known universe

Here's a recap by a female entertainment writer that follows the show as close as we do. I have to say that I agree with almost every point she made.

I don't think I've had so much trouble writing a Supernatural recap ever. The problem? Well, despite there being two hours of material to cover, the final moment twist and where we left the brothers is so uncertain, it's hard to put this season into context.

That's not to say that season finales need to wrap everything into a neat little bow -- in fact, some of Supernatural's best season finales left the Winchesters' world strewn about. But even those finales left us with major questions. ("Who will survive the car crash?" "How will Sam get Dean out of Hell?" "What does the end of the world look like?") This year, I don't have anything specific to ask. Simply, I'm wondering: Now what? That sort of bugs me. Castiel is God. Ellipses. Question mark. But while I have my qualms with the final note, the (two hour) journey we took to get here was pretty darn good.

The first hour began with the gang trying to track down the how-to guide for locating Purgatory that famed horror author H.P. Lovecraft once had. But their search was somewhat put on the backburner when Dean's ex-lady friend, Lisa, and Manga-reading not-kid, Ben, were captured by Crowley. Crowley wanted Dean and Jolly Green to call off their plans to foil his Purgatory plans. If they did, the once pseudo-fam would live. (Can't say the same about Lisa's downgrade of a rebound boyfriend, though. RIP.)

Dean and Sam decided to call 1-800-REPLACE-AN-ANGEL and got Balthazar. Their new manservant. Only he proved to be less than cooperative. In fact, he was downright unhelpful at times, refusing to stick his neck out for them like they were accustomed to Cas doing. But this is what they got for burning a bridge, I suppose.

But in the absence of help from Balthazar, we saw the return of Dean the Torturer, which made me as wildly uncomfortable as the first time we saw it. But if there would be one thing in this world that would make Dean turn back into that person, it would be family related.

Very quick side note here because I pay too much attention to details: Did anyone else get a very odd feeling from Sam's statement that Dean was "running on Whiskey, coffee and anything else you've taken"? That comment combined with the fact that they never addressed the shady pills that Dean offered Sam earlier this season made me hope they're not pulling a Gossip Girl and giving Dean a background drug problem (like Blair's eating disorder). I mean, they're already sort of alcoholics. Lay off!

Anyway, once Dean's torturing turned dangerous (he accidentally broke the devil's trap), Castiel stepped in and saved him…again. But Dean didn't think that Cas saving his life was reason enough to quit trying to stop him from opening purgatory -- even though Cas asked him to back off. Later on in the episode, Castiel would reflect on this betrayal and distrust. And part of me thinks it was a large part of him taking his soul-eating too far.

Meanwhile, Bobby worked the H.P. Lovecraft angle, which required him to make a few stops, one of which was a heartbreaking trip at a mental hospital to visit a man who had been present at one of Lovecraft's rituals. (Question: When the old man in the wheelchair told Bobby that he'd get locked up if he claimed to believe in monsters, did anyone else's blood run cold? I seriously thought that was foreshadowing. Part of me is glad I was wrong…another part was disappointed because it would have been awesomely dark cliffhanger to leave Bobby locked in a mental ward.)

Bobby's journey eventually led him to Dr. Visyak, who we learned was from purgatory. She had crossed over during Lovecraft's ritual. Yes, meaning Bobby, like the boys, has banged an otherworldly being. Bobby wanted to take Visyak somewhere to protect her because he predicted that Castiel was probably hot on her trail. She refused, telling Bobby, "You're just a man." Based on his expression, I don't think any other words have ever burned Bobby Singer more. After all they've been through, I'm pretty sure the main characters forget that they're human more often than they should. At the end of the episode, Bobby's fears proved to be warranted. Castiel found her.

The only bright spot in all of this is that Balthazar, after learning the truth about Castiel, eventually agreed to help Dean and Sam by locating Lisa and Ben. And the rescue scene made the entire Lisa and Ben storyline pay off, in my opinion. Because there is nothing I love more than protective Dean, and seeing him bust through the door was, frankly, incredibly hot. (I honestly tried to think of a more eloquent way to say that. I didn't find one that properly communicated my point.) The twist here was that Lisa was possessed by a demon and ended stabbing herself in the gut. So when Dean exorcised her, she collapsed into a fit of pain. (Dean saying, "I know, honey. I know" nearly killed me.)

They got her to the hospital, but according to Dean, she'd be dead by midnight. That's when Castiel swooped in to save the day…again. He healed Lisa, but Dean also asked Cas to wipe their memories of him.

This is likely to be a sore subject for Dean for a long time, but, also, possibly one we'll never hear of again. Unless someone wants their nose broken.

End of episode questions: What did you think of the first hour? Did you think that Castiel saving Lisa and his favor to Dean would be enough for them to make up? I certainly did. In fact, I was hoping they'd go into the second hour as a gang again and fight Crowley. That didn't happen. Did you expect the H.P. Lovecraft thing to matter a little more than it did? Did you gasp when Dean slapped Ben? (I thought it was necessary, though.) Are you glad Dean got an apBENdectomy? And a Lisa-dectomy, for that matter. But that doesn't sound as cool.

We were given no time to recover from the episode, because we were immediately taken into the final hour.

The final hour of the season finale started abruptly. Thematically, the episodes went well together. But part of me wishes that there had been at least a small common thread. Like, for example, if Sam started off the episode with a broken nose. Kidding (but that would have been funny).

The way it actually started off was a memory-impaired Sam running from the cops and into a bar where a he met a pretty dark-haired girl -- I think the show secretly has a quota they have to meet. Together, the pair set off on a journey to find out Sam's identity.

I wasn't sure what to think at this point. I knew Sam's wall was coming down, so I naturally assumed that this was a side effect of that. Although, I found it odd that we didn't get to see the wall coming down. We did soon enough.

Every time Sam's memory was jarred, he'd pass out, and we'd get a piece of the puzzle. One piece revealed how the Dr. Visyak story concluded.

It turned out that Visyak's refusal of Bobby's help ultimately caused her death. After Castiel captured her, he and Crowley drained her blood for the Purgatory ritual. It was disappointing because I rather liked the character. And it was also Bobby's second major loss of the season. Poor guy.

Castiel, apparently a man with giant balls, appeared just after her death and begged the boys one last time to tell them to stop fighting the inevitable. (Oh, Cas. You don't know them at all!) When they refused for the upteenth time, Cas brought down Sam's wall, hoping it would throw them off their game.

Yeah, I did NOT see that coming.

We eventually learned that Sam's solo adventure was taking place in his head. And he was essentially gathering the pieces of himself back together. When the wall came crashing down, he split into three pieces: Relatively normal Sam, soul-less robo-Sam, and Hell-tortured Sam. Normal Sam ended up having to kill the other two so he could come back together. But it came with consequences: the memory of hell.

My favorite of those scenes was when extra-crispy Sam told normal Sam that he was, "not strong enough" to deal with the memories of hell. To which Sam replied, "I'm not leaving my brother alone out there." After half a season of robo-Sam, this was a great moment and speaks so much to the bond they share. I also loved that Dean sat by Sam's bedside through much of the episode and resisted every time Bobby tried to pull him away. Ugh. These guys don't even have to be in the same room to break my heart anymore. That's what 6 seasons will do, I guess.

I know it seems like I've rushed through the explanation of the Sam scenes, but truth be told, they seemed a little stretched out, and they took up a much larger portion of the episode than they should have. I did, however, enjoy the part where we discovered the truth about the bartender who had accompanied him on his mind adventures. (It was revealed that soul-less Sam shot her when a demon tried using her as collateral.) That was a cool twist.

Also a cool twist was the squabble between Crowley and Castiel. It was clear at this point that Castiel was no longer himself. So much so that he was willing to poop on his deal with the King of Hell. He told Crowley that when it was all over, he was not giving him any souls. So he could either leave immediately or die. Balthazar was obviously pissed but took the escape option. We knew he'd be back. And he did come back. With reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Balthazar came through one last time and helped Dean and Bobby locate the ritual site. So off they went, but not before Dean left an address for Sam underneath his gun. In case he woke up. (Sob.)

Back at the ritual site, Balthazar was trying to comfort Castiel who was lamenting the loss of his friends…and his co-conspirator. But knowing that Balthazar had been betraying him as well, Castiel put a blade through Balthazar. Farewell, Balty. But it wasn't the end of Castiel's troubles.

After all we'd been through, I'd practically forgotten that Raphael even existed. But Crowley hadn't. He struck a deal with Raphael after Castiel betrayed him, forming a truly powerful pair. And their huge arrival let us know it. It even flipped the Impala over, with Bobby and Dean inside. (My heart dropped.) And next season, I'm sure we can look forward to another round of Dean rebuilding the car for the tenth time in the Singer salvage yard. If you thought cats had lots of lives…

So Raphael and Crowley threatened Cas into forfeiting. Or so they thought. He returned after their ritual failed, and gave them the angel finger by revealing he'd swapped the blood and conducted the ritual on his own.

By this point, Bobby and Dean had crawled out of the wreckage and into the building. Hell-ravaged Sam, who had woken up after killing the final version of himself, had also limped to the scene in time for the big final showdown. But it wasn't so much a showdown as it was a big ass kicking. Castiel killed Raphael (very much like Lucifer had killed him at the end of last season), let Crowley go (because he had "plans" for him), and rejected Dean's pleas to purge the souls. Instead, he declared himself the new God.

This scene was upsetting to watch because it was clear that Dean cares a lot about Cas, and it's also clear that Cas is not Cas anymore. He's not the slightly corny, lovably naďve angel we all fell in love with. He's…something else. Something I really don't like. Something I don't think can be redeemed. I hope they prove me wrong next season.

Episode questions: What did you think of the episode? Did you find the Sam scenes a little drawn out? Did you love the brother moments as much as I did? Did you think Cas was going to kill Sam after Sam stabbed him? Did you find the final close-up shots sort of corny? And where the heck do we go from here?

Here's something else I just found out :|

Many outlets are reporting that Misha Collins will not be a regular cast member next season :|

I thought they were both really good, the only complaint I have is it seems they packed too much into the last episode. (22) I would have liked to see them spend more time on both plots, maybe if they would have made the finale a two parter, part one is entirely Sams dreamworld dealing with the alter Sams and part two entirely the opening of purgatory with Sam only showing up at the end.

Yea, it wasn't the best they've done, but I definitely liked them.

Exactly....there are definitely some things I would have liked to have been done differently, and like you said, it did seem to be quite a bit packed into those 2 hours, but all in all, it was pretty decent.

The first one dealt with what....some guys kidnap Lisa and Ben, they are returned and have their memories wiped....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Second one started out cool but the supposed wall coming down in Sam's head was anticlimatic at best...he meets his first self (the badass no soul guy)
and he ends up getting killed without much fanfare ....yawn...yawn.

In fact the best part about both episodes was that smokin dark haired chick in his mind...

Cas got the souls, he became omnipotent as he should have as he can kick Crowley's ass with his eyes closed and life moves on.One of, if not the... most boring season enders for this show.
