ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Petersburg man punched out a 13-year-old girl, unprovoked, at a gas station Saturday afternoon while the girl's parent was outside pumping gas, deputies said.
Kolbe Wayne Smith, 27, faces several charges, including aggravated child abuse.
The incident happened at the RaceTrac at 2551 54th Avenue North Pinellas County deputies said.
Witnesses told detectives that Smith walked in and punched the teen in the face with enough force to knock her out, causing her to fall to the ground.
Several people stood outside of the store and wouldn't let Smith leave until authorities arrived, detectives said. When deputies got there and tried to take him into custody, they said he resisted. It took more deputies, another witness and a stun gun to take him into custody, deputies said.
The 13-year-old girl was treated at the scene by paramedics and released to her parents, who refused transport for further medical treatment.
Investigators said Smith admitted to taking LSD and said he didn't remember the incident.
