A PAIR of British schoolboys who "hero-worshiped" the Columbine High School killers planned to carry out a copycat attack at their own school, a court heard yesterday.
The atrocity was intended to replicate the notorious 1999 massacre in Colorado, where white supremacists Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold murdered 12 students and a teacher and seriously injured dozens more.
Paul Greaney QC, prosecuting, told how the two schoolboys in Northallerton, North Yorks, had become fascinated with Harris and Klebold.
He said: "The two teenagers researched and discussed those killers and their interest in them turned to hero-worship."
Leeds Crown Court was told how the older boy was in a relationship with a 14-year-old girl but harboured a grudge against her parents who tried to keep them apart.
The girl told police she had been so frightened of upsetting the boy she allowed him to carve his name into her back using a knife.
He allegedly broke into her house just days before his arrest on October 23 last year and was found at midnight by the girl's mother "dressed like Eric Harris".
He fled and was seen carrying a large knife.
Mr Greaney said the boy planned to murder the girl's parents before stealing the father's seven guns. The boys, both now 15 and who cannot be named for legal reasons, deny a joint charge of conspiracy to murder. The older boy also denies unlawful wounding and aggravated burglary. The trial continues.
