Nearly a decade ago, Elizabeth Smart, then 14 years old, was kidnapped at knifepoint from her bedroom inside her family's Salt Lake City. Utah, home. Nine months later she was found alive.

Now, Smart, 23, will help other kidnapping victims and their families as an ABC News contributor, focusing on missing person and child abduction cases.

"She'll help our viewers better understand missing person stories from someone with the perspective to know what a family experiences when a loved one goes missing," ABC News spokesperson Julie Townsend tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Smart, who is expected to make her debut on ABC News in the next few weeks, will be "looking ahead, not looking back at her own story," Townsend said. "This is definitely not about looking backward and telling her story, which has been well told and retold."

Townsend would not say if Smart plans on moving to New York City from Utah, where she attends Brigham Young University.

Very brave indeed - however I forsee a breakdown or 2 as she is covering stories that have some similarities to her own experiences.

From Wiki:

Adam John Walsh (November 14, 1974 – c. July 27, 1981) was an American boy who was abducted from a Sears department store at the Hollywood Mall in Hollywood, Florida, on July 27, 1981, and later found murdered and decapitated. Walsh's death earned national publicity. His story was made into the 1983 television film Adam, seen by 38 million people in its original airing. Walsh's father, John Walsh, became an advocate for victims of violent crimes and the host of the television program America's Most Wanted.

Convicted serial killer Ottis Toole confessed to the boy's murder but was never tried for the crime. Although no new evidence has come forth, on December 16, 2008, police announced that the Walsh case was now closed as they were satisfied that Toole was the murderer. Toole died of liver failure on September 15, 1996.
