During his speech at the 37th Annual National Peace Officers' memorial service in front of the Capitol, President Donald Trump made it clear he wants a law passed where criminals who kill police officers are put to death.
“If we want to bring down violent crime, then we must stand up for our police. We must confront and condemn dangerous anti-police prejudice,” Trump said. “Can you believe this prejudice with respect to our police? We're not going to let bad things happen to our police.”
“We must end the attacks on our police, and we must end them right now. We believe criminals who kill our police should get the death penalty. Bring it forth,” he continued.

Trump added how he has instructed the Justice Department to take steps to implement plans that would protect police officers from attacks like ambushes.
The New York Times reported in 1987 that the Supreme Court ruled it is unconstitutional for state laws to have “executions mandatory for murders committed by prisoners who are serving life sentences without possibility of parole.”
