If you think your job stinks spare a thought for the sewer cleaners of Bangladesh.

Each year dozens are believed to die as they dive into the drains to clear blockages with sticks or their bare hands.

The men are paid just £7.50 a day for the hazardous work as they swim through the polluted sewers of the capital Dhaka.

They don’t wear any protective gear as they hold their breaths and plunge into the clogged-up dirt.

Dhaka is home to 14 million people and suffers with an inadequate drainage system.

Recent floods caused by heavy rains have made the situation worse.

The men are paid by the Dhaka City Corporation to swim through the polluted sewers.

Each year many of them drown while others suffer from long-term health effects caused by the slurry.
