So apparently, all the guy wanted was an apology, but the Superintendent resigned without apology.

He appeared to deny it to the end, and the guy may have had a different recollection.. But the point here is strong, the system failed that kid.. At least as we are lead to believe..

35 years later and he couldn't move past it? Really? To what end did this really serve? Kids do stupid shit. You're gonna hold a guy accountable for the junk he did as a stupid kid 35 years after the fact, after the guy worked hard to achieve what he accomplished?

I wasn't bullied to that extreme, but I was definitely picked on, and in Grade 6 / 7, as a shorter fat kid I was a punching bag for the stupid punk kids after school. And I was taught not to fight. It was only after my Dad intervened and the system caught up with it midway through Grade 7 did I get any peace.

I did get a sort-of revenge and closure when I went bowling with friends about 10 years after graduating high school...One of my bullies was the guy behind the counter. I saw a flash of recognition and then a sheepish look as I was now 6'2" and clearly far more muscular than he was.

He made idle chit-chat --how's your life etc since Elementary School and I told him I was a Business Support Analyst, and he said "well, I work here at the alley -- it's cool", then asked if we could go for beers afterwards. I hesitated, then said "no, I don't think so, thanks", then proceeded to bowl with my friends.

That kind of helped me make my peace with it. Living well, as they say, is the best revenge.
