A SPACE observatory was evacuated and placed on lockdown by the FBI, sparking claims they may have stumbled across alien life.

Employees from the National Solar Observatory in Sunspot, New Mexico, were told to leave as agents rushed to the research centre last Thursday.

The building remains on lockdown, surrounded with yellow tape, as no timeframe has been given to local police for it to re-open.

A post office nearby was also cleared out and employees have been transferred to another branch.

And no one has given an explanation why.

"We have temporarily vacated this facility as a precautionary measure," a spokeswoman for the Association for Universities for Research in Astronomy said.

"We're working with the proper authorities on this issue."

But Tyler Glockner, who runs YouTube conspiracy channel secureteam10, thinks astronomers in the observatory spotted something the government did not like.

He speculated, while taking images of the sun, they may have come across a secret military project or even extraterrestrial life.

Tyler went on to add that the FBI would have been brought in to remove any evidence of this.

His video has now racked up more than 300,000 hits in less than 24 hours.

And viewers were quick to share their thoughts.

"They don't even close a school for this long after a shooting, something big has happened," one person claimed.

Another added: "Maybe one of the employees tried to mail out their findings."

And a third claimed: "Suspicious considering that NASA just launched a probe to go within 6million miles of the Sun to take images."

BLOCKED: FBI taped off the entrance to the National Solar Observatory

It is not the first time claims have surfaced over alien life, though.

Just yesterday, artificial intelligence spotted 72 unknown radio bursts in space.

And before that, NASA found a recording which could not be explained.

I find it curious. There were reports of Blackhawk helicopters hovering also.

Someone on Reddit said there's a nearby base of some sort, they figured some new piece of hardware was being tested that they didn't want public eyes on.... Makes the most sense logically. Probably aliens though.

What we define as "buzz" is the psychological concept of closure. Confronted with incomplete information, the mind completes the picture with familiar or comfortable data, regardless of accuracy. Largely emphasized in Gestalt.

For example, where the fuck is Corey Crawford? I am assuming he has a brain trauma.

Go deep on Crawford. The Blackhawks are silent.

Think it's connected to this observatory being on lockdown? :-k

Clearly reddit is all over your mystery RBP

I don't think this is true: my cousin's girlfriend knows a janitor at Johnny's who heard from a skate sharpener that Crawford was exposed to a science accident and has suffered a strange mutation where his DNA was combined with a potent marijuana strain that has given him super powers and he has put hockey behind him and now fights crime as Reeferboi.

A New Mexico observatory that was temporarily shut down over an undisclosed security issue is set to reopen Monday after its closure sparked wide-ranging theories, officials said.

The Sunspot Solar Observatory, located near the Sacramento Mountains, no longer faces a security threat to staff, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) said in a statement Sunday. The facility had been closed since Sept. 6.

“Given the significant amount of publicity the temporary closure has generated, and the consequent expectation of an unusual number of visitors to the site, we are temporarily engaging a security service while the facility returns to a normal working environment,” the statement said.

It’s unclear what the security threat to the observatory was. The FBI referred all questions to the association.

“We recognize that the lack of communications while the facility was vacated was concerning and frustrating for some. However, our desire to provide additional information had to be balanced against the risk that, if spread at the time, the news would alert the suspect and impede the law enforcement investigation. That was a risk we could not take,” officials said.

The temporary closure and reports the FBI was involved sparked wild speculation over the reason.

Otero County Sheriff Benny House told the Alamogordo Daily News the sheriff’s office was asked to stand by and mentioned that the FBI was involved.

“The FBI is refusing to tell us what’s going on,” House told the newspaper. “We’ve got people up there (at Sunspot) that requested us to standby while they evacuate it. Nobody would really elaborate on any of the circumstances as to why. The FBI were up there. What their purpose was nobody will say.”

House said there were a lot of unanswered questions over Sunspot’s closure.

“But for the FBI to get involved that quick and be so secretive about it, there was a lot of stuff going on up there,” House told the newspaper. “There was a Blackhawk helicopter, a bunch of people around antennas and work crews on towers but nobody would tell us anything.”

Security guards from Red Rock Security had been guarding the perimeter of the observatory last week due to the high influx of visitors since word of the facility’s closure, according to the Alamogordo Daily News. A guard told the newspaper at least 35 people had showed up by Friday.

Authorities evacuated all employees from the site, including four from New Mexico State University. About a dozen residents around the site were evacuated and the U.S. Postal Service decided to evacuate employees, too, according to the newspaper.

The Sunspot Solar Observatory is located atop Sacramento Peak and overlooks Tularosa Basin, which includes the city of Alamogordo, Holloman Air Force Base, White Sands Missile Range, and White Sands National Monument.

The telescope at the observatory was originally built by the U.S. Air Force and later was transferred to the National Solar Observatory. The one-of-a-kind telescope produces some of the sharpest images of the sun available to the world.

A New Mexico solar observatory reopened Monday after an 11-day FBI investigation of a janitor who was suspected of using the facility’s internet to download child pornography, federal court documents revealed Wednesday.

The National Solar Observatory in Sunspot, New Mexico, abruptly closed Sept. 6 over an undisclosed security issue. The lack of explanation fueled conspiracy theories, given the facility’s close proximity to Roswell – the location of a supposed UFO sighting in 1947.

An FBI officer said she was “investigating the activities of an individual who was utilizing the wireless internet service of the National Solar Observatory … to download and distribute child pornography.”

Officials on Monday said the observatory did not communicate with the public during the investigation because they didn’t want the suspect to be tipped off.

“[O]ur desire to provide additional information had to be balanced against the risk that, if spread at the time, the news would alert the suspect and impede the law enforcement investigation. That was a risk we could not take,” officials said.

Investigators determined the observatory’s janitor had used his laptop to connect to the facility’s wireless internet system, an FBI affidavit said. Federal authorities obtained a warrant to the search the suspect’s residence, Reuters reported, citing FBI records.

On Sept. 14, FBI agents removed three cell phones, five laptops, one iPad, an external hard drive, and other electronic devices, from the suspect’s home, FBI records showed.

An FBI spokesman said the case is still under investigation. According to the FBI, the suspect has not been arrested or charged.

Sunspot is located in South Central New Mexico, about a four-hour drive from Albuquerque.
