A man who was high on methamphetamine made several attempts to rob an east Allentown liquor store and then a 7-Eleven on Christmas Day, but he was stopped by customers, according to court records.
Eladio M. DeLeon, 27, of the 500 block of North 15th Street in Allentown, allegedly told an employee at the Union Beverage, 906 Club Ave., that “he was God and he was upset that they won’t let him take what he wants,” according to court records.
According to a criminal complaint:
DeLeon was in the liquor store on three different occasions around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to witnesses.
The first time, DeLeon attempted to steal two 16-ounce bottles of Corona, but a customer stopped him and he dropped the bottles into a shopping basket and left.
He later re-entered the store, went to the counter area, made the comment about being God and shoved a female employee to get to the cash register. He made several attempts to open the register, but left with nothing.
Allentown police were called, but DeLeon had fled the area.
Police later discovered he had entered the nearby 7-Eleven store, 2324 Union Blvd., walked behind the register area and attempted to steal the store’s cash drawer. The manager told him to leave the store and was about to shove him, but DeLeon left on his own.
DeLeon walked back to the liquor store and police were there to arrest him. Police said DeLeon appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. DeLeon admitted he had just used meth,.
DeLeon was charged with two counts of robbery, three counts of harassment and one count each of theft, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was arraigned by District Judge Jacob Hammond and sent to Lehigh County Jail under $50,000 bail.
