DENVER -- Public transit in Denver is the most expensive in the nation when compared to more than a dozen cities of similar size or larger, according to a new report.

RTD raised prices for one-way local routes from $2.60 to $3 for adults, which is more than twice the price of bus and train tickets in Austin and Houston, which go for $1.25.

Denver's fares will also hit riders' wallets harder than in New York and San Francisco, where tickets are less expensive and the cost of living is higher.

Regional fares went from $4.50 to $5.25 and a ride on the University of Colorado A Line between Union Station and Denver International Airport increased from $9 to $10.50.

In addition, RTD plans more cuts to bus service in 2019, which means riders are less likely to use transit, often hopping into a car instead.

In the summer, RTD will roll out a low-income program, giving certain qualifying riders 40 percent off.

Ours isn't great either $2.85 now (went up $0.10) for one zone which isn't far, quickly gets up over $5 for a ride... you also need a PhD to understand the system

On top of this, we have transit tax on our gas in Vancouver, so there's no escaping this shit even if you drive :|

Pisses me off because Seattle just a couple hours south is SO cheap.

 Yours is like choose your own adventure bingo. I'm buying a single adult fare, but it's current concession, I'm in zone three, so that's 3.80. No wait it's July 1st  3.90...

What I like about ours is a single ticket costs 3.40, but if you buy a book of 10 it's only 34.00 dollars! :face:

We're more expensive than you are for local rides, that's not right

And they are raising prices AND cutting routes/services here. Plus, in a metro area of more than 4 million people, on the weekends, the busses and light rail STOP running before the bars even close. :|

And we have the same thing here, if you live in the 7 county Denver metro region, there's a tax for public transport (it's called the RTD Tax here) and it's on every single purchase you make. So every person in Denver subsidizes the public transport whether they use it or not. :|
