There's already threads for football bets and league discussion.

Thought we could post here real time during the game. My TV is upstairs and PC is downstairs, so my comments will be intermittent.*

*Like when Brady has to leave the game due to injury and when Gurley scores his two touchdowns :)

I never realized when Robin Williams did this, it was during the 1979 Superbowl between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots

He came out with the Broncos cheerleaders and Denver won

Since I played defense most plays I consider game-pivotal are made by the D.

Number 23 for the Rams just covered Gronk beautifully and stopped the Pats from any scoring as the second quarter ran out.

The Rams defense is doing a wonderful job.

Spock prequel is probably Star Trek: Discovery. As Lance and I have been discovering...it's a shitty kick in the nuts to what made the original Star Trek great and this series is likely written by some militant SJW's in the writer's room.

I'm at a loss as usual :-s

I did note however that each singer and pre-game official on the field was black and they made a point of saying they all toured the hood and talked about SJ issues.

I wondered how Colin Kaepernick felt about what Gladys Knight said and then I see this

"Colin Kaepernick's lawyer lashed out at Super Bowl Halftime performers Maroon 5, specifically singling out frontman Adam Levine for his ire."

 How about finding the first white face about 10 positions down the line up and your finger lands right on...the first white face. Too much

Hal-9000

Ok I peeked. Lawyer says:

"Most of the musicians who have any kind of consciousness whatsoever understand what's going on here."

Because any artist that plays the Super Bowl is not showing solidarity for his blackballed client :-k

"If you're going to cross this idealogical or intellectual picket line, then own it, and Adam Levine certainly isn't owning it."

He's mad because Maroon 5 didn't give the regular pre-game press conference :-k

Hey lawyer man...why don't you take all that righteous indignation and throw some at each of the FOOTBALL players, coaches, management, equipment handlers, who are actually participating in the GAME your boy is banned from? Why you pickin on the entertainment? They were only out there for 12 minutes.

Most of the corners and safeties were covering the Pats receivers like glue...except Edelman. As Romo was saying the guy was beating any coverage by five yards at times just when he made a cut on his pass routes. It was embarrassing.

We had a smaller guy on one of our teams who was like Edelman. Ran like he was on fire and could catch anything thrown near him. In practice he'd come off the line and you'd be running with him, then one second later he's gone and he's over somewhere else catching the ball

Sure. But it's the same argument talking about fighters, hockey players etc. Rule are different, equipment is different, training methods are different. Hell even the way they call time outs now is different.

You know what burns my ass in general about football? The kicking rules. A person should not be able to angle a punt out of bounds where the receiving team has no chance to touch it and the refs mark it where the angle bisected the sideline marker....in the air. It should have to touch the ground in bounds first.

And we have a no yards rule. I notice in the NFL guys can just run down, crowd around a punt and stop the motion of the ball where ever they want. Returning team should have to touch it first at least.

Same thing with a touchback on a kick off when a returner doesn't want to run it out. Don't they auto spot it on the 25 now? That's 25 free yards without any loss because of the decision. Back the kicker up 10 yards and make it a one point penalty if the receiving team elects not to attempt a return.

Simplified - Now, if you feel the returner is a great runner you just keep booting it into the back of the end zone and it goes to the 25. Same thing on the receiving side. You get 25 yards for free anytime that ball drops near the end zone. Should be more of a detriment. Like after a touchback spot the ball on the nine yard line...

I simply made the statement about putting the Pats back in the late 70's thru the 80's because I am absolutely SICK of the talk of him being GOAT.

As far as the kicking rules, the NFL has basically made it so there are little to know kick-off returns anymore because of injury risk. Personally I think it's stupid, the return game is no more dangerous than other parts of the game. But they let the teams kick-off from the 35 now and with most NFL kickers now, that almost guarantees the ball will either end up deep in the end zone or just be completely kicked out thru the back of the end zone. They used to spot the ball at the 20 for than, but now it's the 25, and that's dumb too, but the NFL wants more offense.

As for crowding around the ball after a punt, the defensive team usually only does that if the punt returner runs away from the ball because he has no shot of catching it or returning it. Like if he thought he was going to be able to return it but then realizes he should have called for a fair catch and he ducks away from the ball. He needs to NOT let it touch him or else it becomes a live football. That's why you only see the defensive players crowd around the ball like that.

Yep I'm up on the whys and hows...don't like them. I think...in our league on a punt the kicking team has to wait until the ball stops moving to down it. That's after the receiving team has elected not to field or touch the ball. We do have the five yard rule on kicks which I like, because otherwise the kicking team can just hire a bunch of track stars and be there at the same moment the ball drops near the kick returner

It's almost an auto-spot on kick-offs and that 25 yards is a lot of gifted real estate. Injury risk...pffft, play flag football then.

In the NFL, the kicking team MUST give the punt returner the opportunity to catch the ball or else it's a penalty. Now, they can try and time it just right and hit him as he catches the ball in hope of knocking it loose, but in doing that, you run the huge risk of an interference call.

So you can't eviscerate him with a well timed hit as the ball is entering his hands?

It is fun to watch

Not happy with those first two penalty calls. What kinda half assed interference rule is that?

Can someone explain that early interference call on the Rams?

Guy had caught the ball and was tackled. Refs said something about his head and how he hadn't become a receiver yet after the catch. :-k

You can try and time it perfectly, but usually it ends up as an interference call if they try that

Watching it live on TV I didn't know it was her until right near the end. I thought they had photoshopped her video image somehow. Her face doesn't have that bad plastic surgery look, it just appears like a smoothing out filter on a camera.

*my ex did the smoothing out thing on her pictures she would send me. Looked so bad at times I thought it was a painting

Pats guy caught the ball, Rams defender may have tackled him high instantly. They ruled the Pats player hadn't 'become' the receiver yet and so the contact was illegal.

Whole play took maybe 1.3 seconds to run, quick pass over the middle. I thought - If they're this picky the Rams will never win.

I think in general the calls went both ways and nothing was too horrible.

I find myself agreeing with Romo a lot. I don't like him for some reason but man he can call a play.

I guess I'd have to see the play. :-k The whole new "what is a catch" BS in the NFL seems to almost change from game to game. But as far as contact being illegal because the receiver hadn't become a runner yet, that's a head scratcher.

And I agree, Romo irritates the fuck out of me, but he is good at calling what's going on down on the field.

I told you the spots I played on two of my teams. We had a great defensive coach who taught us how to cover guys and maybe kinda sorta throw them off their stride. I'll never forget him yelling at me in pass practice - Hey ____! Don't be afraid the grab his number when the ball is thrown, you want his number!!!

 meaning, get your hand on his jersey and do anything to prevent him from catching the ball.

Romo's play predictions are like Nostradamus at times. He wasn't that great of a QB

Forgot to mention that Verizon running a first responder ad when they got caught throttling first responder services during the largest fire in California's history is almost comical.
