When I found out that Ghidorah was in it, the little kid in me squealed. He was my favorite bad guy back when I watched the old crappy movies on Saturday afternoons in the early 80s.

I am so totally going to see this.

I haven't seen any of the 'modern' Godzilla films.

The one that preceded this (I believe it did..) with Brian Cranston was visually unique but overall forgettable for some reason.

Godzilla wasn't in it enough, and the MUTOs were kind of meh. Their fight scenes were all dark as well. I liked it but I thought it could have been better.

By the way, the Kong: Skull Island film (with the three Marvel actors Hiddleston, Larson, and Jackson) is in the same universe as these Godzilla films. They're supposed to be making a Godzilla vs Kong film after this one.

Yeah that sounds familiar

In this new one I liked the line about trying to figure out which one would help the humans. I was thinking - Any beast that's over 1000 feet tall and scrapes pieces off buildings when it walks by is probably not going to be the greatest ally in any scenario

Was that the one with Jack Black in it?

No, that was a Peter Jackson remake of the original King Kong film that came out back in 2005. Although Naomi Watts was smoking hot in it, it kinda sucked. Kong: Skull Island was a little more interesting, but still kinda forgettable in the same way the first modern Godzilla was.

Agreed on the Kongs.

Peter Jackson's monstrosity with Jack Black (something like three hours uncut) could have been trimmed by an hour and been a much better movie. I think when I rewatched it I started pretty much at them arriving at the island.

That was a GREAT scene  Skull Island was the more popcorny/better of the two movies for sure.

I just watched the CinemaSins critiques of both Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla.

Talk about ruthless.

I listened to a podcast with a regular guy like us, not a critic, and he quickly ran down what was wrong with The Last Jedi.

He's gay and a little shrieky with the histrionics at times, but boy did I ever agree with him
