Pretty common sweetener really. I put it in salad dressing to sweeten it a touch all the time, it mixes in more easily and you don't actually taste maple at all. As long as you use the real stuff, I don't know if you'd even taste the difference between a tablespoon of syrup and a tablespoon of sugar in a big batch of pasta sauce?
I did however date a girl who did think it would work the same to substitute Aunt Jemima in salad dressing... it was very noticeable, and my mom (who asked her to bring the salad) was not impressed
 you should have reminded her that Aunt Jemima is a treatment, not a sweetener

Ship my fucking lower, goddammit!!! :x
Now I have two rugs.
Man, you'd think being Canadian this wouldn't be true, but growing up we only had the fake stuff  We were pretty broke in my early childhood I guess.
I prefer the real stuff now, but once in a while I've gotta drench a dirty stack of pancakes in that sticky sugar water Aunt J shit.
Vermont has been a vacation spot for my family for like 70 years, I dont think I've ever even tasted the fake stuff before - we'd always get our years' supply on vacations and shit
 how can any self respecting Canadian admit to having eaten Aunt Jemimas
I do remember back when I was a kid that all the fake syrups would contain something like 2% real maple syrup, just so they could call it maple syrup.

That's where I order my syrup from.
