Survey finds Germany is the best country on Earth, US is 4th

A new survey by U.S. News and World Report says that despite the refugee crisis and Europe's financial mess, Germany is the greatest place on Earth. Even America’s northern neighbor, Canada, is better than the U.S., the report finds.
The magazine’s first-ever Best Countries rankings sampled the perceptions of more than 16,000 people in four global regions, asking them to assign scores to countries based on specific attributes.
The categories included adventure, citizenship, entrepreneurship, heritage, influence, potential growth, open for business, power and quality of life. The survey asked people what their views were on the best country to be a woman, start a career and raise a family, among other questions, U.S. News and World Report said.
Germany came out as the winner, followed by Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Australia, Japan, France, and the Netherlands. Denmark rounded out the top 10.
The magazine says Germany, home to Europe’s largest economy, is viewed as the top country for encouraging entrepreneurship and is lauded for its global leadership and care of its citizens.
The U.S., which took top marks in the Power category and third in Entrepreneurship, placed lower than Canada, which was rated highly on quality of life issues and transparency, results showed.
"There really does seem to be some skepticism about some things that we (Americans) think we may do better than other people do, education being a prime one," said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer at U.S. News and World Report. "Canada and the United Kingdom do better than the U.S. in education. People don't feel as comfortable about U.S. education as perhaps we've been led to believe."
