Warren-Sanders clash ‘very dispiriting,’ Dems' debate like 'cold oatmeal,' CNN’s Van Jones says

By Dom Calicchio | Fox News

Tuesday’s Democratic debate clash between Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders may have stemmed from their respective election strategies as next month’s Iowa caucuses draw closer, but it left CNN’s progressive commentator Van Jones shaking his head.

“To see those two have that level of vitriol was very dispiriting,” Jones said during a network panel discussion after the debate in Des Moines, Iowa, less than three weeks before the Iowa caucuses.

It also left him thinking Democrats were unlikely to defeat President Trump in November, he said.

Leading up to the debate were reports that Sanders had told Warren he didn’t think a woman could win the presidency. But on the debate stage, Sanders vehemently denied the story.

Warren countered by pointing out that only she and Sen. Amy Klobuchar among the debate participants had never lost an election – and only Warren herself had defeated a Republican incumbent in the last 30 years.

Sanders answered by insisting he had defeated a GOP candidate – exactly 30 years ago.

After the debate, Warren even appeared unwilling to shake Sanders’ hand when he extended it.

Four other Democrats – Klobuchar, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg and Tom Steyer – shared the stage with Warren and Sanders, but CNN’s Jones didn’t seem impressed with them either.

“The Democrats are going to have to do better than what we saw tonight,” he said. “There was [no one] I saw tonight that would be able to take Donald Trump out – and I want to see a Democrat in the White House as soon as possible.

“There was nothing tonight that, if you’re looking at this thing, you say, ‘Any of these people are prepared for what Donald Trump’s going to do to us,’” Jones continued, “and to see further division tonight is very dispiriting.”

Later, Jones tweeted he had "high expectations" for the debate but came away disappointed.

"There was a spark missing on stage," he wrote. "It felt like cold oatmeal to me."

A Monmouth University poll released Monday showed Biden leading in Iowa with support from 24 percent of likely caucus participants, followed by Sanders (18 percent), Buttigieg (17 percent), Warren (15 percent), Klobuchar (8 percent) and Steyer (4 percent).

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is skipping the Iowa caucuses and focusing on other races later in the primary season.

Obvious ‘Rigged’: Critics Cry Foul as CNN Debate Slants Against Bernie Sanders

    CHARLIE SPIERING - Breitbart

Supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) are infuriated by the results of the seventh Democrat presidential debate in Iowa because it appears that moderators favored Sen. Elizabeth Warren in the debate hosted by CNN on Tuesday.

The clearest example of bias cited by debate watchers was when CNN moderator Abby Phillips had the following exchange with Sanders and Warren:

Phillips: You’re saying that you never told Senator Warren that a woman couldn’t win the election?

    Bernie: Correct.

Phillips: Warren, what did you think when Sanders said a woman couldn’t win the election?

Warren: I disagreed. Bernie is my friend, and I am not here to try to fight with Bernie.

After the debate, Warren pointedly refused to shake Sen. Sanders’s hand, a puzzling move, as Warren tried to paint her relationship with the Vermont Senator as respectful and collegial.

The story kicking off the alleged claim of Sanders’ sexist remark towards Warren in 2018 was published Monday by CNN and prominently featured on their network before the debate.

Phillips followed up by asking Sen. Amy Klobuchar, “What do you say to people who say that a woman can’t win this election?”

Warren did not repeat her claim against Sanders during the debate, and Phillips and other CNN moderators failed to cross-examine the Massachusetts senator’s account of what occurred during their conversation.

Warren instead pivoted into an answer that trumpeted women running successfully for elections, earning loud cheers from the debate audience.

Supporters also claim that CNN moderators focused more attention on demanding that Sen. Bernie Sanders explain how he plans to pay for his socialist programs, ignoring Warren’s proposals for similar programs.

Sanders’ campaign co-chair Nina Turner immediately pointed out CNN’s bias in a series of screenshots on Twitter.

After the debate, many of the Democrats on the CNN panel immediately declared Warren the victor of the debate, noting her strong performance.

“I think what Bernie forgot is that this isn’t a he-said, she-said story,” political consultant Jess McIntosh said after the debate. “This is a reported out story that CNN was a part of breaking, so to have him just flat out say, ‘no,’ wasn’t nearly enough for the women watching.”

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper corrected McIntosh to note that Warren’s entire accusation and Sanders’ response was basically a “he said, she said” case, as there were only two people in the meeting — Sanders and Warren.

But the rest of the panel delivered unanimous praise for Warren’s debate performance.

Campaign manager for former President Barack Obama David Axelrod said that it was Warren’s “best debate.”

“She was consistent, strong, emphatic, I think she did what she came there to do,” he said.

Political reporter Nia-Malika Henderson said that Warren had the “best plan,” the “best energy” and the “best moment” in the debate.

Even Van Jones said that “this was Elizabeth Warren’s night.”

“She knocked that moment out of the park,” Jones said, arguing that Sanders “stepped on a banana peel” during the debate.

“It was an out of the park moment for her,” said Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash after the debate, praising the “clever way” that Warren brought in Klobuchar to rally the “sisterhood” on stage.

Supporters of Bernie Sanders immediately reacted to what they saw as a rigged debate by sharing the hashtag #CNNisTrash that trended quickly on Twitter after the debate.

Audio released of testy post-debate exchange between Warren, Sanders: 'I think you called me a liar on national TV'

By Joseph A. Wulfsohn | Fox News

Audio of the tense-looking post-debate exchange between Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., was released Wednesday night, revealing both of them accusing the other of "lying" on national television.

CNN, which hosted the debate, reported that the "backup" audio archive of its debate coverage had captured the moment the progressive candidates approached each other after the debate.

"I think you called me a liar on national TV," Warren said to Sanders as he reached out his hand for a handshake, which she did not reciprocate.

"What?" Sanders said while ongoing applause can be heard filling the Iowa auditorium.

"I think you called me a liar on national TV," Warren repeated.

"No, let's not do it right now," Sanders replied. "You want to have that discussion, we'll have that discussion."

    "Anytime," Warren said.

Before parting ways, the Vermont lawmaker fired back at his Senate colleague.

"You called me a liar," Sanders told Warren. "You told me -- let's not do this right now."

Billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer then approached the progressive front-runner.

"I don't want to get in the middle of it, I just wanted to say hi, Bernie," Steyer told the senator.

"Yeah, good. Okay," Sanders quickly replied as he walked away.

The Warren campaign declined to comment. The Sanders campaign has yet to respond to Fox News' request for comment.

One of the most talked-about moments of the night was when Sanders was asked by the debate moderator, CNN political correspondent Abby Phillip, about CNN's report that cited unnamed sources who claimed that the Vermont senator told Warren he believed a woman couldn't win the presidency in December 2018 ahead of their presidential runs.

Ahead of the debate, Sanders flatly denied the charge while Warren affirmed the reporting after she initially had declined to comment.

"CNN reported yesterday that -- and Senator Warren confirmed in a statement -- that in 2018 you told her that you did not believe that a woman can win the election. Why did you say that?" Phillip asked.

"Well, as a matter of fact, I didn't say it," Sanders sharply replied. "Anybody who knows me knows that it's incomprehensible that I would think that a woman cannot be president of the United States. Go to YouTube today. There's some video of me 30 years ago talking about how a woman could become president of the United States."

Sanders then pointed to his attempt to "draft" Warren to run for president in 2016 and vowed to support the eventual Democratic nominee, whomever it be -- including female candidates such as Warren and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

"Senator Sanders, I do want to be clear here. You're saying that you never told Senator Warren that a woman could not win the election," Phillip said.

    "That is correct," Sanders said.

"Senator Warren, what did you think when Senator Sanders told you a woman could not win an election?" Phillip then asked his progressive rival, which sparked audible laughs in the auditorium and a shake Sanders' head.

"I disagreed," Warren simply replied before pivoting to the argument that she and Klobuchar are more electable than the men on stage since they've won "every" election they've run in.

Not all, say what you will about Bernie, but he isn't a liar, he actually believes in everything he says. He doesn't try and hide the truth. During the debate he came out and said that under his plan, anyone making more than $29,000/year will see their taxes go up. Not the kind of thing one would say when trying to win the nomination. He's the only genuine candidate on the democrat side. Genuinely wrong, but genuine nonetheless

New York Times editorial board endorses Warren, Klobuchar for president

By Edmund DeMarche | Fox News

The New York Times announced late Sunday that its editorial board was breaking "from convention" and will endorse two candidates for president in 2020: Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The paper’s endorsement has traditionally been one of the most coveted for a Democratic politician. The editorial board wrote that in choosing these two candidates, it recognizes that both "radical" and "realist" models should be considered.

The paper said it spent more than 12 hours with the candidates before coming to its conclusion.

"The history of the editorial board would suggest that we would side squarely with the candidate with a more traditional approach to pushing the nation forward, within the realities of a constitutional framework and a multiparty country," the editorial read. "But the events of the past few years have shaken the confidence of even the most committed institutionalists. We are not veering away from the values we espouse, but we are rattled by the weakness of the institutions that we trusted to undergird those values."

The paper called Warren a "gifted storyteller" who has "emerged as a standard-bearer for the Democratic left." The editorial board called her path to the White House "challenging, but not hard to envision."

Warren reposted the article on Twitter, joking, "So I guess @AmyKlobuchar and I are now both undefeated in New York Times endorsements!"

Klobuchar was described as the "standard-bearer," but for the party’s center. The paper gushed that she is the very definition of "Midwestern charisma, grit and sticktoitiveness."

The paper pointed to her goals of slashing childhood poverty, achieve 100 percent net-zero emissions by 2050 and her push for a more robust public option in healthcare. He moderate approach to governing would make for a formidable deal maker in Washington, the editorial wrote.

Reports on how she treats her staff “gave us pause,” but she pledged to do better in the future, the paper wrote.

Ian Bremmer, the political scientist and president of the Eurasia Group, criticized the paper's decision to endorse two candidates with "completely different worldviews" in an "apparent effort to render the endorsement meaningless."

Perhaps as important as who the paper endorsed is who it did not.

Joe Biden, the former vice president who continues to lead in polls, but his agenda does not go far enough on issues like climate and health care, the board wrote. The editorial board also wrote that Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., appeared to have missed his moment. The paper pointed out that he would be 79 when he's sworn in and has recently suffered a heart attack. "His health is a serious concern," it wrote.

The paper said it is looking forward to watching South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg develop as a politician and said it was impressed with his resume, but it also pointed out that he never won more than 11,000 votes. The paper said it hopes Andrew Yang, the entrepreneur, also continues to work in politics and recommended looking to New York to get started.

Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor who the editorial board endorsed twice, falls short of the editorial board’s aspirations for 2020. The editorial pointed to issues like barring his own media company from investigating him and his refusal to let women who signed nondisclosure settlements speak to the media. The paper said his campaign approach “reveals more about America’s broken system than his likelihood of fixing it.”

Warren Confronted About Whether It’s Okay To Lie To The American Public
By Ryan Saavedra - The Daily Wire

Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) refused to answer a question from a CBS reporter on Sunday about whether it was acceptable for a presidential candidate to lie to the American public.

CBS News campaign reporter Zak Hudak asked Warren: “Is it disqualifying for a presidential candidate to lie to the American public about anything?”

“Uh, I would think that it, you know, how could the American people want someone who lies to them?” Warren responded. “Um, I think that, that we just do our best out there every day, and I hope that’s what happens with everyone.”

    WATCH:

The question comes as Warren has had to deal with her biggest weakness as a candidate: her dishonesty and insincerity.

The biggest lie that Warren is notorious for is her false claim that she was Native American, a false claim that she has peddled for decades yet had always refused to provided evidence proving her claim.

In October 2018, Warren took a DNA test and released the results thinking that they proved that she was Native American — they did not.

The friendly report that Warren got from The Boston Globe contained math errors, which led to this correction:

Due to a math error, a story about Elizabeth Warren misstated the ancestry percentage of a potential 6th to 10th generation relative. The generational range based on the ancestor that the report identified suggests she’s between 1/64th and 1/1,024th Native American.

That wasn’t the only major error in the report.

The test found that Warren was potentially 1/1,024th Mexican, Colombian, or Peruvian — not Native American.

Another lie that Warren has had to contend with surrounded how she was going to pay for her government-run healthcare plan as numerous publications have flat out called her a liar over her claims that only billionaires will pay more for healthcare under her plan.

The Washington Examiner wrote, “If the math doesn’t make it clear on its own, let me make Warren’s performance clear: she is lying to you and she thinks that you are stupid.”

“This claim is a straight-up lie,” Reason Magazine wrote.

Another lie that Warren has had to deal with on the campaign trail is her false claim that she was fired from an elementary school teaching job because she was “visibly pregnant.”

“Minutes of an April 21, 1971, Riverdale Board of Education meeting obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show that the board voted unanimously on a motion to extend Warren a ‘2nd year’ contract for a two-days-per-week teaching job,” the Free Beacon reported. “That job is similar to the one she held the previous year, her first year of teaching. Minutes from a board meeting held two months later, on June 16, 1971, indicate that Warren’s resignation was ‘accepted with regret.’”

Comments Warren made in 2007 also contradicted the claims that she has made on the campaign trail:

I was married at nineteen and graduated from college after I’d married, and my first year post-graduation I worked in a public school system with the children with disabilities. I did that for a year, and then that summer I didn’t have the education courses, so I was on an “emergency certificate,” it was called. I went back to graduate school and took a couple of courses in education and said, “I don’t think this is going to work out for me.” I was pregnant with my first baby, so I had a baby and stayed home for a couple of years, and I was really casting about, thinking, “What am I going to do?” My husband’s view of it was, “Stay home. We have children, we’ll have more children, you’ll love this.” And I was very restless about it.

Warren was also caught on camera lying to an African American woman, falsely claiming that she did not send her kids to private school.

Warren has also been grilled over the last several days over her claim that Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders told her in a December 2018 meeting that a woman could never be elected president.

Warren’s claim, which was “anonymously” given to CNN to write a report on, was then brought up in CNN’s presidential debate immediately following CNN’s report.

    The Federalist reported:

Tuesday night’s CNN debate was a set-up. And that’s not some internet fever dream, it’s an observation shared by reporters from Rolling Stone and The Huffington Post to Fox News and The Daily Caller. Even late-night comedy picked up on the game.

The trap was set the day before, when the hosts of the debate published a story claiming that in 2018, during a private meeting between Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Sanders told Warren a woman can not win the presidency. Reporters have grown even lazier and more comfortable thinking readers are stupid, so the initial report cited four anonymous sources for a story about a one-on-one meeting denied by the Sanders campaign. It also included the hysterical line that Warren’s campaign “declined to comment,” despite the story coming from the candidate and being filled with anonymous Warren campaign comments.
