Yeah, I don't think so. China's had a tight grip on Hong Kong since '97 (Bill Clinton was President at this time). China does what China wants to when it comes to Hong Kong. If you want to blame anyone for Hong Kong's predicament, then blame the UN and Britain. Britain had control of Hong Kong until 1997, when they gave it back to China. The UN had Hong Kong on its list on Non-Self-Governing Territories, but removed Hong Kong from that list at China's urging in the 1970s, and I really don't understand how that could work since Hong Kong was a British territory in the 1970s. All I can think of is that China wasn't nearly as big and powerful back then as it is today, so we all just kind of gave in whenever they wanted something (thanks, everybody in the world, dumbasses). Anyway, I'm not sure whether or not Hong Kong wanted to be part of China again while they were under British control, someone would have to educate me on that, but I can tell you that they haven't really wanted to be part of China since 1997. The British were a lot better to Hong Kong than Communist China will ever be. Anyway, when the UN removed Hong Kong from that list at China's urging, it dashed any hope of Hong Kong becoming it's own nation, which would be the best option for Hong Kong.

Yeah, but the recent security crackdown... I don't know if that would have happened under a more hawkish US president. I believe that China is trying to fill the power vacuum that the US is left behind. I don't know what the issue is with this. Why wouldn't they do so?
There are other factors as well, such as China's desire to undertake international power plays. For example, I bet the incursion into India was deliberate, belligerent attitudes towards Australia and other countries,... Basically contrived little scuffles to boost Chinese nationalism.
Oh, you're rich. When we're being hawkish, you're criticizing us, but when we're not, you're also criticizing us. You can't have it both ways.
Where Hong Kong is concerned, China is gonna do what China is gonna do. Hong Kong is China's territory. No US President could stop it. Even if Trump could, he won't have the backing of Congress, nor the international community. Let the UN admonish China for what they're doing. Isn't that what the UN's there for to begin with?
I don't see y'all doing anything about it. Why don't y'all get a treaty organization going with Japan, India, the Philippines, South Korea, and other Pacific and Asian nations to put the screws to China? You know? Like we have with NATO against Russia?
If you want China's power to wane, then we're going to need to remove all trade and business from China. Everyone. Good luck with that.

Because China's divide and conquer strategy has worked all too wellWhy don't y'all get a treaty organization going with Japan, India, the Philippines, South Korea, and other Pacific and Asian nations to put the screws to China?
