FRIEDENS, Pa. (WJAC) — A Somerset County couple is facing charges after state police say the two faked a pregnancy, birth and death of a child to receive money and gifts from family and friends.

According to state police, 23-year-old Kaycee Lang and 27-year-old Geoffrey Lang, both of Friedens, faked the pregnancy in May, going as far as holding a baby shower in Westmoreland County, where they obtained gifts from family and friends.

Later in July, state police say, the couple faked the birth and death of the child and received money from family and friends for funeral expenses. Police say a GoFundMe account was made by a friend to benefit the couple, that was later taken over by the Lang's.

According to the affidavit, friends called the police over concerns they faked everything. One told investigators pictures of the alleged baby appeared to be a look-a-like baby doll.

The Lang's told investigators the baby died shortly after being born at Conemaugh Hospital and had the baby cremated. State police said their was no record the Lang's were admitted to Conemaugh, both the Cambria and Somerset County Coroner's Offices had no record of the baby had died, and the funeral home said they did not do a cremation.

The affidavit says they later found a lifelike baby doll in the Lang's home.

The Lang's have been charged with two counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of receiving stolen property. State police said they filed charges in Westmoreland County, where they said the baby shower was held, but details on those charges are not available.

The Lang's have a preliminary hearing in Somerset County on October 1.
