No one will accuse Los Angeles reporter Sara Welch of not performing due diligence.

The KLTA reporter became news after saying on live air that a man who was killed in a car crash could not be reached to tell his side of the story.

“We tried to reach out to the man who died in this pursuit, they were unavailable for comment,” the Emmy-nominated reporter said in a video clip that has since been shared by reporters including New York Magazine’s Yashar Ali.

“When I say I nearly passed out from laughing...” he wrote.

Former ESPN correspondent Jemele Hill, now with the Atlantic, would have been impressed had Welch contacted the accident victim.

“She was this close to the biggest get in journalism history,” Hill wrote.

Other Twitter users empathized with Welch, who was reporting live from a police station in Anaheim, Cali.

“Bless her heart,” wrote one viewer

ABC reporter Zohreen Shah attempted to explain that the family of the victim most likely could not be reached for comment.

“I mean. She meant ‘family of’ — clearly!” Shah tweeted.

Welch may look familiar to East Coasters who watched her on WTNH-TV in Connecticut from 2000 to 2011 before heading west. Prior to that, she reported for WTEN-TV in Albany.
