I'll have to see if I can find some 'mystery gadgets' in our kitchen and get photos. If there's enough, we could probably start a thread.

I think I have a garlic masher in a drawer somewhere that I never use.

In that vein, I almost fell for the hype. I was thinking about getting an air fryer. They seem to be all the rage and there's numerous sites and cookbooks dedicated to making dishes for them. I asked the wife and she said, sure, if you want one (the 'better' ones are pricey, so I wanted to ask her opinion).

Well, I almost pulled the trigger and just before I did, I decided to Google 'are air fryers worth it'? And after a few articles under that, I am glad I didn't order it. I guess they are a lot bigger than you would image (one article compared them to the footprint of a 5 gallon pain and 2/3's are tall as one) and at best the food was lackluster. And when you get right down to it, they are nothing more than a glorified convection over (which we already have). So, I'm so glad I didn't get one. And this is the article that changed my mind:

It's pretty comical in spots but it definitely tells you that you should not invest in one.

My sister asked for a sous vide thingamajig a while back for Christmas and I got it for her. I asked her recently if she used it recently and she said she used it once or twice several years ago and hasn't used it since.

Yeah, that's the problem, it sounds great and like something you want, then you use it less than a handful of times and it just sits there taking up space.

I like his last suggestion: A Dutch oven with a couple of quarts of canola oil. I still have no idea what to do with the canola oil afterwards.

I had a BBQ and one of the guys saw this on the counter. He said " My wife has one of those but we don't keep it in the kitchen."

I can see myself using the stick blender on a regular basis, but the huge ass stand mixers? Not so much.

I have the stick blender as well as the standing mixer. I have a dough hook and use it for making bread.

Also, on the topic of eggs, I made pickled eggs this weekend

I love homemade bread but I don't see myself making it. I could use a stand mixer to make pizza dough, but I could just use my hands and a rolling pin too, which is what I actually do. I do a lot of sauce type stuff and I hate chunky sauce so the stick blender would work great. My regular blender leaks (it's old) and I hate having to clean it so if I could just blend the shit in the original bowl I had everything in to begin with, that would be awesome.

I got a stick blender after I exploded my blender trying to blend hot potato soup. Guess it was too hot. Glass and hot soup all over me. Great Day

    Holy shit

I love my emersion blender, it's an awesome kitchen tool. Great for blending sauces or soups without transferring to a blender, easy to plug in anywhere in the kitchen and easy to clean too. Also works very well for making quick dressings in the little cup it comes with rather than getting a full sized blender out. I
